Thap Muoi District is one of the five districts selected by the province to pilot the emulation model of striving to become a “Professional Farmer”. Accordingly, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee (VFF) of Thap Muoi District selected four communes: My Dong, Thanh Loi, Phu Dien, and Doc Binh Kieu to pilot agricultural production on rice and fruit trees (jackfruit).
In My Dong commune, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and local socio -political organizations propagated to union members, members and people to actively participate in the pilot model. In particular, mobilizing people to do agriculture step by step integrating multi-values, especially clean and safe production according to the increasing demand of the market. Mr. Nguyen Van Hai, residing in My Dong commune, said: “When participating in the model, I was able to attend training courses on applying scientific and technical advances in production (burying fertilizer, planting rice in rows, applying “1 must 5 reductions” ...) to help save production costs, higher profits compared to traditional production. I and many other farmers comply with environmental protection regulations during agricultural production (collecting bags, shells, bottles, jars of fertilizers and pesticides in the fields) and gathering them at a common treatment site, limiting environmental pollution”.
According to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Thap Muoi district, through the model focusing on the social and production and business fields with 9 directly related criteria that households need to strive to implement: all family members voluntarily participate in socio-political organizations; participate in cooperatives, Associations; no one violates the law; comply with regulations on safe production; implement well the regulations on environmental protection; be willing to share with the community about experiences in production and business... which are responded by people, bringing many remarkable results.
After the implementation of the model, up to now, Thap Muoi district has 113 participating households with a total area of 338.4 hectares. Thereby, local socio-political organizations have mobilized nearly 60 members from 91/113 households with all family members of the required age to participate in one of the socio-political organizations at their residence or place of study or work. In addition, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Thap Muoi district coordinated with the People's Committee and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee at the commune level to establish 3 more Association Halls. Up to now, the whole district has 12 Association Halls, which are an important foundation to quickly change farmers' awareness from traditional agricultural production thinking to agricultural economics , contributing to promoting local socio-economic development.
Through the implementation of the model in 4 communes of Thap Muoi district, it shows that the group of criteria on production organization has many positive changes, the majority of people have switched to using fertilizers and biological pesticides, limiting the impact on the soil and water environment, the collection of packaging, bottles, and jars of pesticides after use is well implemented. In addition, people apply information technology more, regularly update information on production experience, market, and prices. At the same time, sharing knowledge, production experience, production efficiency is improved in terms of output and quality. The evaluation results of the 4 communes selected to pilot the model, 77/133 households met 9/9 criteria.
