“I think playing one less match is a small advantage for us. But in a final match, the mental factor will play a very important role. U23 Vietnam needs to overcome the psychological barrier to show their true ability,” coach Kim Sang-sik shared at a press conference before the U23 Southeast Asian final on the afternoon of July 28.
The Korean strategist affirmed that playing one less match will give U23 Vietnam a physical advantage before the match against host U23 Indonesia at 8pm on July 29 at Bung Karno Stadium. However, the Korean coach emphasized that the mental factor is the key to success or failure in this important match.
The captain of U23 Vietnam also showed respect for his opponent: “Indonesia has a young squad and played 120 minutes in the semi-finals. However, with three days off, I believe that will not affect them much. They will enter the field with the same determination as us.”
Under coach Kim Sang-sik, U23 Vietnam has shown stability in playing style, fighting spirit and good adaptability to different opponents. After 4 consecutive wins, Van Khang and his teammates are aiming to become the first team to win the U23 Southeast Asian Championship three times.
On the other side of the front line, U23 Indonesia received the support of 80,000 home fans. However, with careful preparation and a relaxed spirit, the Vietnamese players believe they can overcome the pressure from the Bung Karno stadium stands.
Overseas Vietnamese midfielder Le Viktor shared: “The whole team has prepared well and is taking steps towards the championship. I always keep a relaxed playing spirit, not focusing on scoring. If there is an opportunity and a goal comes, it will be a worthy reward.”
