Shameless, anti-sporting Thai coach still says 'beautiful goal'

"It was a beautiful goal," coach Masatada Ishii said about the second goal of the Thai team in the second leg of the AFF Cup 2024 final. This was a foul play by the Golden Temple team when their players did not show the fair play spirit commonly seen in football.

In the 64th minute of the second leg of the final, goalkeeper Dinh Trieu proactively kicked the ball out of the field so that the medical team could enter the field to take care of his teammate. When the match restarted, the Vietnamese team waited for a fair play situation to return the ball. However, the Thai players did not do so.

When the Vietnamese defenders were caught off guard, Supachok Sarachat suddenly fired a long-range shot into the Vietnamese team's net. The referee recognized the goal.

Despite scoring an unsportsmanlike goal, the Thai team still could not turn the situation around to win. The team from the Golden Temple received a red card shortly after, then conceded a goal due to an own goal by Pansa Hemviboon. At the end of the match, the Vietnamese team scored another goal to secure a 3-2 victory (5-3 on aggregate).

"Thailand could not win the tournament this year, but we have many young players who are very good for the future. The Vietnamese team played better and deserved to win. Thailand made mistakes in the first minutes of the match, and those moments changed the match. We are not allowed to repeat this mistake," added coach Masatada Ishii.
