Thailand U17 coach sacked.

On the afternoon of April 10th, the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) announced the termination of Mr. Meelarp's contract after one year. The decision was made just one day after the 0-2 defeat of the Thai youth team against China at the Asian Championships. The name of his replacement will be announced as soon as possible.

At the AFC U17 Asian Championship, Thailand had high expectations, especially with the inclusion of Manchester United's youth team player, Silva Mexes. However, the "War Elephants" disappointed by losing all three matches, conceding nine goals and scoring only two.

Before losing to China, the Thai U17 team also suffered defeats against two strong opponents in the group: Uzbekistan (losing 1-4) and Saudi Arabia (losing 1-3). Coach Meelarp's team finished last in the group and missed out on a ticket to the World Cup held in Qatar later this year.

Coach Meelarp and his team faced a wave of strong criticism from the Thai media and fans, especially since the other two Southeast Asian representatives, Indonesia and Vietnam, had both made a considerable impression. While Indonesia secured a World Cup spot, Vietnam also impressed with two draws against top continental opponents, Australia and Japan.
