Since the beginning of May 2025, Dau Tieng Lake has carried out many flood discharges to ensure the safety of the project and the downstream area.

Regulation work is carried out in accordance with the inter-reservoir operation process and regulations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment .

Mr. Tran Quang Hung - General Director of Southern Irrigation Exploitation Company Limited said that the water level of Dau Tieng Lake at 7:00 a.m. on June 11 at elevation 19.88m exceeded the upper limit of the operating water level range (17.38m-19.22m) according to the Inter-reservoir Operation Procedure by 0.66m.

To proactively respond to unusual weather and natural disasters; ensure water supply safety, construction safety and downstream safety during the rainy and flood season of 2025, Southern Irrigation Exploitation Company Limited decided to adjust the time of water discharge through the spillway for the second time, phase 4, 2025.

Accordingly, from 7:00 a.m. on June 12 to 7:00 a.m. on June 19, Dau Tieng reservoir entered the second flood discharge of the fourth phase, with a flexible flow rate ranging from 36-200 m³/s. After this time, the flow after the dam continued to be maintained at a minimum level of 36 m³/s according to the Inter-reservoir Operation Procedure on the Dong Nai River Basin.

The water level of Dau Tieng Lake is currently exceeding the upper limit of the operating water level range.

According to Mr. Tran Quang Hung, the discharge of flood water with large flow in conditions of heavy rain, high tides and limited urban drainage systems can cause local flooding in some areas downstream of the Saigon River, especially low-lying areas in Tay Ninh, Binh Duong provinces and Ho Chi Minh City.

Therefore, the company recommends that localities, authorities and people living along the Saigon River proactively monitor information, adjust agricultural production and daily life plans, and take measures to protect assets, structures and livestock from the risk of flooding due to the impact of water discharges.

In addition, the company is also closely coordinating with the Civil Defense - Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue Command of related provinces and cities to update the situation and promptly adjust appropriate water discharge plans, ensuring safety for downstream works and residents.
