Profile of the business accused of "transforming" livestock oil into human food

(Dan Tri) - Nhat Minh Food Production and Import-Export Company Limited is headquartered in Dong Anh District, Hanoi City. The company is headed by Ms. Dang Thi Phuong as Director and Legal Representative.

Vietnam Television (VTV) reported on June 24 that the OFOOD cooking oil brand of Nhat Minh Food Production and Import-Export Company Limited was discovered to have been sold to the market in tens of thousands of tons, under the name of cooking oil for humans. However, this was actually vegetable oil used to produce animal feed, which did not meet food safety standards.

In response to the news that some establishments were discovered using imported cooking oil intended for animal feed to produce and process it into cooking oil for human consumption, the Food Safety Department ( Ministry of Health ) issued a warning about this behavior.

Accordingly, to prevent risks and ensure consumer safety, the Food Safety Department recommends that food production and trading establishments, especially collective kitchens and ready-to-eat meal suppliers, need to request suppliers to clarify the product's declaration and raw material records, not just rely on packaging and labels.

Information from the National Business Registration Portal shows that Nhat Minh Food Production and Import-Export Company Limited (Nhat Minh Food Company) was established in November 2018 with the original name of Nhat Minh Phuong Import-Export Company Limited.

The company registered its head office in Nam Hong commune, Dong Anh district, Hanoi city. The main business line initially registered was wholesale of beverages, specifically wholesale of spirits, wine, beer, non-alcoholic beverages, natural mineral water, and bottled purified water.

The initial registered charter capital was 1.8 billion VND. Three individuals contributed capital to establish the enterprise, including Ms. Dang Thi Phuong contributing 900 million VND (equivalent to 50% of the contributed capital), Mr. Nguyen Ha Dong contributing 450 million VND (25% of the contributed capital) and Ms. Ngo Thi Binh contributing 450 million VND (25% of the contributed capital). The director and legal representative is Ms. Dang Thi Phuong (born in 1987).

In July 2021, the company changed its name to Nhat Minh Food Production and Import-Export Company Limited. The shareholder structure also changed, with Ms. Dang Thi Phuong contributing VND 1.08 billion (60% of the capital contribution) and Mr. Nguyen Ha Dong contributing VND 720 million (40% of the capital contribution).

Tax declaration information at this time shows that the business has 5 employees.

By November 2022, the company changed its main business line to producing animal oil, fat, and margarine. In May 2023, the company increased its charter capital to VND8.8 billion but did not announce its capital contributors.

In addition to being a member of Nhat Minh Food Production and Import-Export Company Limited, Ms. Dang Thi Phuong is also the Director and Legal Representative of Vina Win Production and Import-Export Company Limited. This enterprise was established in August 2023. The head office is located in Area D, Pho Noi A Industrial Park, Lac Hong Commune, Van Lam District, Hung Yen Province.

The company has an initial charter capital of 9 billion VND. 3 members contributed capital including Chu Thi Thanh Huyen contributed 2.25 billion VND (25% of capital), Tran Thanh Vinh contributed 4.5 billion VND (50%), Dao Thi Thu Huyen contributed 2.25 billion VND (25% of capital).

When the company was first established, Ms. Dao Thi Thu Huyen was the Director and Legal Representative. In November 2024, the capital contributors changed, with Mr. Pham Duy Noi contributing VND 2.97 billion (33% of capital), Mr. Le Van Phuong contributing VND 2.97 billion (33%) and Ms. Dang Thi Phuong contributing VND 3.06 billion (34%).
