Phalaenopsis orchids have taken root in the land of Thuan Hoa commune.

Thuan Hoa commune, Ham Thuan Bac district, has a large area of arable land, favorable for investment in agricultural farm development. The weather and climate have two distinct seasons: the dry season and the rainy season.

However, the hot, dry season usually lasts longer than the rainy season each year. This factor makes it difficult for local farmers to produce short-term crops. But for Phalaenopsis orchids grown in greenhouses, applying high-tech methods , the prolonged hot and dry climate is suitable for their growth. Recognizing this, from the end of 2022 to the present, Thao Moc Orchid Garden in Da Lat city has boldly invested in building greenhouses on an area of 3,200 ^m² in Dan Hiep village, Thuan Hoa commune, cultivating approximately 80,000 Phalaenopsis orchids. After more than a year of cultivation, the results have been positive, with the orchids growing well, achieving a survival rate of over 95%, and receiving high praise from customers for the quality and beautiful colors of the flowers.

Mr. Tran Van Man, the manager of a greenhouse orchid cultivation facility in Dan Tri village, Thuan Hoa commune, Ham Thuan Bac district, shared: Each orchid plant is designed to be grown in its own substrate, arranged in rows on shelves. The shelves are about 1 meter high from the ground and about 2.5 meters wide. Currently, the 3,200 ^m² greenhouse in Dan Tri village, Thuan Hoa commune, contains hundreds of rows of orchids arranged closely together. On average, each tissue-cultured orchid plant grown in the greenhouse for 4 months is sold by Thao Moc orchid garden in Da Lat city for 50,000 VND/plant; for orchids grown for 8 months and flowering, the price is 150,000 VND/plant. For the past four months, the Phalaenopsis orchid garden in Dan Hiep village, Thuan Hoa commune, has consistently sold 20,000 four-month-old Phalaenopsis orchid plants each month, generating around 1 billion VND in revenue, and has also imported another 20,000 young orchid plants for cultivation.

The economic efficiency of the high-tech greenhouse orchid cultivation model in Dan Hiep village opens up a new direction for the Party committee, government, and people of Thuan Hoa commune, Ham Thuan Bac district, in converting to suitable crops, helping farmers increase income per unit area of production, and effectively utilizing the potential of land and labor resources in the locality.
