As an opening signal, the five drumbeats of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto (D major, Op. 61) resound, enveloping the entire auditorium in a tense and dramatic atmosphere throughout the first movement. Moving into the second movement, the sound changes to a gentle, dreamlike tone woven with smooth, delicate violin melodies. The third movement closes the concerto with a lively, lively spirit, with an explosive energy in the final climax.

Next on the program was Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5 (D minor, Op. 47), a work he himself described as “a long spiritual battle, with victory as its reward.” The sound was sometimes harsh, sometimes whispery, reflecting the contrast between inner torment and hidden hope. All of it gave the audience a rich and emotional experience.

Journey of silent cultivation
For nearly 30 years with dozens of performances, Toyota Concert is not only an annual meeting place for those who have fallen in love with classical melodies but also a bridge from the past to the present and the future, bringing the beauty and meaning of a seemingly academic music genre to the general audience.

A highlight of the Toyota Concert 2025 was the participation of People's Artist Bui Cong Duy as a violin soloist. As one of the leading names in Vietnamese classical music, his performance left a strong impression on the program with his skillful, delicate and confident playing.
After the performance, People's Artist Bui Cong Duy shared: “Classical works are always a big challenge for any artist. Every time I perform, I discover a new perspective, a different emotion, which is also the unique point of classical music. In recent years, in Hanoi, I clearly feel a positive change: concert programs are increasingly invested in, both in scale and quality, and are richer in genres. That creates a very promising musical atmosphere.”

With the persistent support of VNSO, Toyota Concert has gone beyond the framework of an art event exclusively for art lovers, to gradually spread widely in the community and touch the hearts of many audiences. Among them, there are loyal audiences like Ms. Nhu Linh ( Hanoi ).
Ms. Nhu Linh said: “The Toyota Concert is one of the programs that I have admired and followed for many years. It is a valuable effort in spreading classical music to the public. The program always maintains a very high artistic quality. People's Artist Bui Cong Duy performed emotionally and skillfully. I really enjoyed the entire concert. In addition, the modern, beautiful architectural space and very good sound at Ho Guom Theater made my experience even more memorable.”
Not only retaining loyal audiences, Toyota Concert 2025 also conquered a large number of young audiences, both Vietnamese and foreigners. The diversity of audiences partly shows the strong influence and positive transformation of classical music life in Vietnam.
Ms. My Nuong, a young audience member attending the program, shared: “The program is very good and meaningful. Music in Vietnam is receiving more serious investment, symphonic music deserves to be developed and promoted further, so that in the near future we can bring our country's performances to the world.”
Melodious, grand and full of tones, classical music always has its own way of touching the hearts of listeners. After nearly 3 decades, Toyota Concert Hall has persisted in its mission of spreading the beauty of art in life with meticulous quality, with the companionship of excellent artists, and above all, with a heart towards the community.
