Painter Nguyen Cuong was born in 1943 in Hai Phong city. In 1962, he joined the army and served for nearly 30 years. During that time, he continued to create art. In 1974, painter Nguyen Cuong graduated from the Vietnam College of Fine Arts, then continued to graduate from the University of Fine Arts in Budapest (Hungary).
In his 45-year artistic career, artist Nguyen Cuong painted about 500 paintings. In addition to easel paintings, he also created many large-scale murals and sculptures.

Painter Nguyen Cuong is well known for his work “Hai Phong Shipyard”, which is currently in the collection of the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum and is regularly exhibited. In addition, he has other notable works such as “Information Girls”, “Souvenir of a Friend”, “Green Dream”, “Fish Playing with Waves”, “Sunny Sea”, “Sa Pa”, “Coordinates of the Sea”…
He worked continuously in art until his sudden death at the age of 71.
Exactly 10 years after his passing, the artist's family organized an exhibition "10 years of remembering Nguyen Cuong". The exhibition introduces 84 works by artist Nguyen Cuong in lacquer, oil, pencil sketches, and watercolors, created by the artist from 1970 to 2014.
The works mainly depict images of soldiers in combat and production labor. In addition, there are some works expressing the author's philosophy of life, along with some still life and abstract paintings.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Lam, the life partner of painter Nguyen Cuong, shared that with the inspiration, encouragement and help of relatives, fellow soldiers, fellow students, colleagues of the painter, close friends near and far of the painter and family, she boldly collected, arranged, annotated the works and documents he left behind, and gathered them into an exhibition. These are the works that painter Nguyen Cuong loved during his lifetime and the works that marked the first success in his career.
The exhibition runs until May 30 at the Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts, 66 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi .
