'Vietnam Marathon King' Hoang Nguyen Thanh has successfully conquered the title of "king of mountain climbing" Ba Ra for the 9th time.

On the morning of January 6, at the 30th National Cross Country Mountaineering Championship "Conquering Ba Ra Peak" in 2025, jointly organized by the People's Committee of Binh Phuoc province and the Department of Sports and Physical Training (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism).

The "Conquering the Ba Ra Peak" cross-country race was held since 1993, and in 2005 it was included in the national competition system. This year, the race had the participation of 71 delegations with more than 1,700 athletes; including 480 athletes in the selection system, more than 1,000 athletes in the grassroots system, and 18 athletes from abroad. The athletes competed in 22 events, including 8 selection events, 2 national grassroots events, 8 provincial grassroots events, and 4 events from foreign delegations.

Notably, this year's tournament attracted many familiar runners in the men's category such as: Trinh Quoc Luong, Hoang Nguyen Thanh, Pham Tien San... In the women's category, there were also outstanding athletes such as Pham Thi Hong Le, Hoang Thi Ngoc Hoa...

"As the winner, I am very happy. This is the 9th time I have won the tournament, but I am very proud to win right in my hometown," Hoang Nguyen Thanh shared.

In the women's category, Pham Thi Hong Le (Binh Dinh province) also excelled in surpassing Hoang Thi Ngoc Hoa (Binh Phuoc province) to become the "climbing queen".

In this competition, athletes must compete in extremely unique terrain with both flat roads and steep hills, and especially must overcome 1,800 meters of steps, before reaching the finish line at the top of the mountain.

With this terrain, athletes must distribute their strength reasonably, have high endurance and good climbing ability to conquer Ba Ra mountain peak.

At the end of the tournament, the organizing committee also awarded prizes to outstanding athletes who won the events of the national cross-country mountain climbing championship "Conquering Ba Ra peak".
