Speaking at the conference, Professor Nguyen Tien Thao, Director of the Examination Center of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), said that in 2024, the exam will consist of 6 sessions taking place from March 23 to June 2, 2024 at 19 locations in 11 provinces/cities including: Hanoi, Thai Nguyen, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh, Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh.

The number of candidates taking the exam was 100,633/104,575 registered, reaching a rate of 96.2%. According to the exam statistics, 21 candidates violated the regulations and were suspended and had their exam results canceled because they intentionally brought their phones into the exam area or copied documents into the Vietnam Geography Atlas. Questions related to candidates who were suspended for using phones were all removed from the exam database immediately after the exam.

In 2024, statistics show that 1,035/2,970 high schools have students participating in the exam. There are 53/64 provinces/cities with students participating. Of which, Hanoi has the highest number of registered candidates, followed by Nam Dinh and Thai Binh. Candidates from the farthest away come from Vinh Long, An Giang , Ninh Thuan, Dak Nong.

The highest score of the 2024 exam is 129/150; the lowest is 17/150; the average score is 76.5/150.

The two female students with the highest score of 129/150 are Nguyen Thanh Ngoc (Kim Lien High School, Hanoi) and Nguyen Mai Truc (Chuong My A High School, Hanoi). The next two candidates with the same score of 128/150 are from Thai Binh and Ninh Binh . The third place is for the two candidates with 127/150 are from Thai Binh and Phu Tho.

Statistics of the distribution of 100,633 exams (including 32.2% of candidates taking 2 exams), the percentage of candidates scoring above 110/150 is 0.8%; above 105/150 is 1.9%; above 100/150 is 4.5%; above 90/150 is 16%; from 80/150 or more is 38.6%; from 75/150 or more is 53%.

Professor Thao said that based on the HSA exam score rankings in recent years, Hanoi National University has instructed training units to directly enroll in basic science majors for candidates with scores of 95/150 from the 2024 admission season. The published score distribution, distribution statistics and exam score rankings are also important bases for educational institutions to consider admission based on HSA exam results.

If we count the HSA exam results of candidates from 15 northern provinces and cities with over 2,000 students taking the exam, Nam Dinh will "dethrone" Ninh Binh (in 2023) to become the province with the highest average score among the provinces and cities compared in 2024. Next are Vinh Phuc, Thai Binh...

Mr. Thao also said that after each exam session (or exam period), the exam committee will screen and remove (withdraw) from the bank questions that candidates violate exam regulations (using mobile phones, candidates chatting on forums) and questions that do not meet professional requirements. The total number of standardized questions removed in the 2024 HSA exam is 167. The Hanoi National University Examination Center is continuing to develop additional exam questions every year according to exam regulations.

Competency Assessment Exam 6 rounds in 2025 with new structure

Professor Nguyen Tien Thao said that in 2025, the Hanoi National University Examination Center has developed a plan to organize 6 rounds of Competency Assessment exams, from March to May, and serve 85,000 exams/year in a new exam format: Compulsory exams include Mathematics & Data Processing and Literature - Language; Optional exams include Science (choose 3 out of 5 topics: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography) or English (for foreign language training majors).

Statistics up to now, nearly 97 universities/schools have announced in their 2024 enrollment plans that they will use HSA exam results for independent or combined admissions.

Currently, the HSA exam of Hanoi National University is the only exam in Vietnam in which candidates register to take the exam, take the exam on a computer, and the results are displayed immediately after submitting the exam. This is also the first and only exam in which candidates can actively choose the exam location and exam session.
