On September 27, at the Tra Vinh Provincial Convention Center, the 8th Congress of Delegates of the Association of Patriotic Buddhist Monks and Nuns of Tra Vinh Province, term 2023 - 2028, took place.
Attending the Congress were more than 370 official delegates representing monks, administrators, and Buddhists of 143 Khmer Theravada Buddhist pagodas in the province.
Attending the Congress were representatives of the Association of Patriotic Buddhist Monks and Monks from the provinces of Kien Giang, Bac Lieu , Hau Giang, Ca Mau, Vinh Long, Can Tho City, Soc Trang and Khmer Theravada Buddhism.
Attending the Congress were Mr. Kim Ngoc Thai, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Mr. Le Thanh Binh, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; former leaders of the Provincial Party Committee, Provincial People's Committee; representatives of provincial and district departments, branches and sectors.
During the past term (2018-2023), the Association of Solidarity of Patriotic Buddhist Monks of Tra Vinh province has always played a good role as a "bridge" between the Party and the State to propagate andeducate Khmer monks and Buddhists to improve their knowledge and comply well with the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws.
Through that, it helps monks and Buddhists to promote the spirit of solidarity and actively respond to patriotic emulation movements in the locality. Including contributing to building rural bridges, caring for housing and people's lives, especially Khmer people in difficult circumstances.
In addition, the Association at all levels has supported the construction of over 70 Great Solidarity houses, built bridges and rural roads, helped orphans, poor but studious students, lonely elderly people, contributed to the fund for the poor and provided flood relief to compatriots... with a total amount of nearly 140 billion VND.

Speaking to congratulate the success of the Congress, Mr. Kim Ngoc Thai, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Tra Vinh province, acknowledged that throughout history, the Association of Patriotic Buddhist Monks and Monks at all levels in the province has continued the tradition of patriotism, actively mobilized and encouraged the spirit of compatriots and monks, actively built the great national unity bloc; cared well for Buddhist affairs in accordance with the motto "Dharma - Nation - Socialism"; promoted the role of each member, making important contributions to the overall development achievements of the province in recent times.
Mr. Kim Ngoc Thai emphasized that the Resolution of the 11th Provincial Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term has determined the goal of "Striving for Tra Vinh to meet new rural standards before 2025, becoming a leading developing province in the Mekong Delta region" with 6 key tasks and 3 breakthrough tasks.
Therefore, in the coming time, sectors and localities will continue to pay more attention to training and fostering cadres for ethnic and religious work; building a contingent of Khmer ethnic cadres with sufficient numbers and strong qualities; continuing to pay attention to developing a contingent of dignitaries and officials to contribute to the effective implementation of policies and socio-economic development programs.
The Congress elected a new Executive Committee of 65 members and a Standing Committee of 25 members.
Venerable Thach Sok Xane was re-elected as Chairman of the Association of Patriotic Buddhist Monks and Monks of Tra Vinh province for the 2023-2028 term.
