With the advantage of the province having over 84,000 hectares of fruit trees, 20,000 hectares of coffee, 6,000 hectares of rubber and over 600,000 hectares of natural forest, this is a great potential for honey beekeeping. The whole province currently has 48 branches, 8 honey beekeeping cooperatives with nearly 2,400 members; maintaining 85,700 bee colonies, annual output reaching 3,200 - 3,500 tons of honey, 200 - 300 tons of pollen, 250 - 300 tons of beeswax; annual revenue from honey bees ranges from 230 - 250 billion VND; average income of beekeeping households reaches several hundred million VND/year. Every year, Son La supplies the market with 1,200 – 1,500 tons of high-quality honey, many products meeting OCOP standards and effectively using the collective brand “Son La Honey”. Beekeeping not only brings a stable income, helping households to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty, but also contributes positively to the overall economic development of the province.

Aiming for sustainable development, in 2026, the General Science Association will continue to promote the dissemination of beekeeping in remote areas, striving to increase the total number of bee colonies in the province to 90,000.
