- On the morning of November 15, the Vietnam Association of the Elderly chaired and coordinated the online scientific workshop "Silver economy in Vietnam in the new era". Attending and directing the workshop was comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang, Politburo member, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council.
The workshop was held in Hanoi and connected with 33 online bridges in provinces and cities. At the bridge in Lang Son province, the workshop was attended by leaders of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province; leaders of some provincial departments and branches; leaders of the Provincial Association of the Elderly; and outstanding elderly people in the area.

Vietnam has officially entered the aging population stage since 2011 and is expected to become a country with an aging population by 2036. According to statistics, our country currently has about 17 million elderly people, accounting for a significant proportion of the population structure and increasing rapidly. Our country is facing economic and social security challenges, as well as opportunities to develop the "silver economy".
At the workshop, delegates focused on exchanging, discussing, and evaluating the role of the elderly in socio-economic development over 40 years of national renovation; drawing valuable experiences that need to be inherited; continuing to promote the role of the elderly as an important force and resource for developing the "Silver Economy in Vietnam in the new era". Delegates also focused on systematizing policies and laws related to the elderly; sharing experiences and pointing out current policy gaps and barriers and shortcomings in developing the "silver economy" in Vietnam to continue to improve...

Speaking at the workshop, Comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang, Politburo member, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, highly appreciated the significance of the workshop. He emphasized that in the past, the elderly were often seen as subjects that needed attention and care, but in the context of rapid population aging as today, the elderly need to be considered an important resource of society. With experience and prestige, the elderly can play a leading role in the family, community, even directly participate in production and business, contributing to the formation and development of the "Silver Economy in Vietnam in the new era".
The workshop provided scientific and practical arguments for the development of the “silver economy”, meeting the needs, promoting the potential and contributions of the elderly, creating an important driving force to contribute to the development of the country’s economy. At the same time, this is also a premise for the activities of the “Silver Economy” Forum in the following years, connecting with domestic and international forces, creating a driving force to promote the development of economic sectors related to serving the elderly.
Thereby, initially creating a change in awareness among Party committees, authorities, business communities and society about the necessity of building and developing "Silver Economy in Vietnam in the new era"; encouraging innovation, investment, and developing product and service markets for the elderly in the context of rapidly aging population in Vietnam.
