Specifically, lettuce costs 50,000 VND/kg (up 30,000 VND/kg), white basil costs 80,000 VND/kg (up 50,000 - 60,000 VND), bitter melon costs 40,000 VND/kg (up 20,000 VND), broccoli costs 50,000 VND/kg (up 27,000 VND), tomatoes cost 35,000 VND/kg (up 18,000 VND), carrots cost 18,000 VND/kg (up 6,000 VND)...

Explaining the high prices of vegetables and fruits, traders said that due to the influence of erratic weather and storms, the quantity of vegetables and fruits grown in the local area is not much, most of them have to be imported from other provinces, so the prices have increased "dizzily". Compared to the time before storm No. 13, the current prices of these items have increased by 50 - 70%, this is the highest increase since the beginning of the year.

Fresh food is not only less in quantity but also less diverse than before. Ms. Le Thi Xuan Ha, a trader at Binh Kien market, said: The prices of tubers and fruits have increased, but not as much as green vegetables, and the supply is still limited. My stall specializes in vegetables, tubers and fruits, and over the past week, the import prices have been too high, so I have to sell them at high prices to people. I am afraid of weak purchasing power, so I only import a sufficient quantity every day.

Fresh foods, especially vegetables and fruits, are foods used daily in families, but because of high prices, many families have found temporary alternatives.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuc (Tuy Hoa ward) said: “I have cut down on the amount of vegetables and tubers in my meals because the prices have doubled or even increased. Before, my family spent about 25,000 - 30,000 VND on vegetables and tubers every day, but now it is 60,000 - 70,000 VND. Because of the high prices, my family has switched to using other types of food instead.

Faced with the situation of rising prices of fresh food in traditional markets, the leaders of Dak Lak Market Management Department have directed local market management forces to grasp information and market prices.

The unit's leaders requested that in case of detecting sudden price increases in food due to speculation, taking advantage of storms and floods, the forces must take timely measures to prevent and handle the situation, avoiding market fluctuations and causing confusion for consumers.

On the other hand, Dak Lak Market Management Department also directed forces to strengthen inspection of some essential goods for home repair and maintenance such as roofing, screws, steel wire, etc. and strictly handle any signs of speculation, hoarding, or illegal profiteering.

Unlike traditional markets, vegetables and fruits sold at supermarkets and convenience stores have more stable prices, with some places having slightly increased prices. Therefore, the authorities recommend that people should survey and choose food at stable selling points to save costs; and at the same time, report to local authorities when detecting signs of unreasonable price increases.
