Honda Civic 2027 will adopt new HEV platform

Honda Japan has announced a series of breakthrough technologies on new electrified vehicle models, including the 2027 Civic at the Honda Automotive Technology Workshop 2025.

According to Honda's roadmap, new-generation HEV models will begin to be launched from 2027, including the next-generation Civic, with a completely redesigned chassis. Compared to the current generation, the new platform is about 90 kg lighter thanks to optimized body torsion resistance technology, helping to improve stability and grip when operating.

This approach aims to preserve the emotional driving experience – an element that is part of the Honda brand DNA – even in the electrification era.

The new chassis adopts a modular architecture that separates the front, rear floors and passenger compartment, allowing for more than 60% common components between vehicle models, thereby helping to shorten development time and optimize production costs.

Along with that, Honda also introduced a series of advanced operating support technologies such as the Motion Management System.

The Motion Management System inspired by the ASIMO robot or the Agile Handling Assist system now has the added Pitch Control feature - helping to control braking force and stabilize the vehicle body when cornering.

For the North American market, Honda will introduce a completely new V6 hybrid powertrain for its large sedans and SUVs from 2027.

The 6-cylinder petrol engine will combine with an electric motor and high-performance battery to deliver 10% more powerful acceleration, 30% more fuel economy and smooth operation, suitable for D-segment vehicles and above.

In the urban vehicle segment, Honda is not out of the game when it brings the small electric vehicle Super-ONE Prototype. This model will be commercialized from 2026, starting in Japan, then the UK and Asian countries.

The vehicle uses a separate platform developed from the N-Series, integrating a thin battery placed between the floor frame to help lower the center of gravity, increase stability and precise driving feel.

The most special feature of Super-ONE is Boost Mode, which combines a 7-speed simulated gearbox, with simulated engine sounds and real gear shifting. This system allows the driver to feel the familiar sportiness of a gasoline vehicle, but still maintains the smoothness of a pure electric vehicle. Honda calls it “Electric Emotion”.

Through this Honda Automotive Technology Workshop 2025 event, Honda shows that they are not simply following the electrification trend, but are creating their own direction, combining technology and driving emotions.

With a lightweight and agile hybrid chassis, powerful powertrains and a character-rich urban electric vehicle, the Japanese automaker is redefining the future of electrification in its own unique way – all while remaining fun to drive, whether petrol, hybrid or fully electric.
