Russian media reports say the RFAF is launching an attack on the western outskirts of Pokrovsk, aiming to reach the industrial area northwest of Pokrovsk. Fighting has also broken out in the railway area east of Pokrovsk train station. Strikes from the RFAF's 2nd Army Group Center are still advancing in the Sobachevka and Genativka areas. Ukrainian sources say heavy autumn rains have hampered the establishment of logistical support for Russian forces in Pokrovsk.
However, operations from Russian UAV forces succeeded in cutting off land transport routes from Ukraine to the city of Pokrovsk and surrounding areas, as well as to Myrnohrad. The AFU still has a relatively strong defense capability in the Myrnohrad urban area. Several large-scale armored attacks by the RFAF have failed to penetrate the AFU defense lines in the east and south of the Myrnohrad area. However, under pressure from the RFAF offensive, the Ukrainian army is withdrawing from its peripheral positions and concentrating on defending inside the city. The Russian army continues to gain the upper hand in more areas, especially the high-rise buildings south of Pokrovsk. After General Sirsky arrived in Pokrovsk, the AFU continued to launch attacks on the suburbs, with the 80th Air Assault Brigade, which had just withdrawn from the Sumy front, launching a counterattack from the Gryshyne bridgehead to relieve the forces in the city. In the southeast of Pokrovsk, in the area of the village of Rih, the 225th Assault Brigade also launched a counterattack. However, the Russian 29th Army captured the village of Novopavlivka and continued to overrun the village of Gnativka south of the Pokrovsk municipality. In the mining area south of Myrnohrad, the RFAF completely controlled three villages east of the Myrnohrad municipality (Balahan, Kozatske, Promin); this was considered the core defense line of the AFU.
The situation in the AFU area of Pokrovsk was extremely chaotic. The line between being surrounded and escaping was extremely thin. The fighting situation had changed dramatically; this style of warfare had created a dense, intertwined line of defense, making it impossible to determine the enemy's location. According to Ukrainian experts, the RFAF did not attempt a frontal assault on Pokrovsk as it did on Bakhmut. This time, it carried out a systematic encirclement, aiming to destroy the garrison with minimal losses. The daily battle map shows that this plan is working. Some AFU commanders believed that sometimes the most difficult decision was the right one. An orderly retreat, preserving fighting forces and occupying prepared positions. All of this was much more sensible than waiting to be completely surrounded and losing everything. The lesson of Ugledar was still relevant for the AFU. Lord Bebo channel said that about 700 Ukrainian soldiers, equivalent to 2 battalions, have surrendered near Pokrovsk in the past month. This is a record number since the beginning of 2025, according to some media. Russia has continuously released videos of capturing a series of Ukrainian prisoners of war on this front. Fewer and fewer AFU units attempted to resist in Pokrovsk due to logistical cuts. Convoys carrying fuel and ammunition were destroyed by Russian UAVs even before reaching the city, and the Rodinske-Pokrovsk highway was dubbed the "second road of death". In the battles for Pokrovsk, according to various estimates, more than 6,500 Ukrainian soldiers were killed and more than 5,000 Ukrainian troops are still surrounded. Rybar channel said that Russian troops have entered the settlement of Rovnoye, located between Pokrovsk and Mirnograd, which means that the "cauldron" surrounding the enemy group in these two twin cities has officially closed, Anna News channel commented.
A few days ago, after repelling enemy counterattacks, the Russian army changed its offensive tactics, moving around the fortified positions of the AFU in the fields between Rodinske and Pokrovsk. As a result, they closed the encirclement along the highway west of Rovnoye and Svetloye. The remaining AFU units outside the "cauldron" in Pokrovsk and Mirnograd were trying their best to break through and rescue their encircled comrades. They launched continuous counterattacks between Pokrovsk and Rodinske, as well as targeting RFAF positions inside the city. A few days ago, a small group of about 30 Ukrainian fighters broke into the residential area of the town of Rodinske, but they held out for less than two days. Inside the encirclement, the situation for the Ukrainian defenders is rapidly deteriorating. Due to lack of supplies, failed breakout attempts, and increased Russian pressure, their garrison is being pushed back towards Mirnograd.
Now that Ukrainian troops have almost completely withdrawn from the Pokrovsk metropolitan area, Russia is expected to officially take control of the city within the next 2-3 days. The remaining Ukrainian troops are trying to consolidate their forces in high-rise areas in neighboring Mirnograd. If they do not "make a bloody retreat" or surrender but instead hold out to the death, the fighting could drag on. However, the remnants of the AFU can only delay the complete collapse of the Pokrovsk stronghold for a few more days. (Photo source Military Review, Readovka, Ukrinform).
