A Honda Monkey with a specially modified fuel tank has set a record, traveling nearly 4,200km without having to refuel.
On June 14, 2023, the Acerbis Motorsport team officially completed its goal of breaking a new Guinness World Record by reaching the northernmost point of Europe on a special Honda Monkey, according to Auto News.
The team's motorcycle traveled 4,183 kilometers (2,599 miles) along a predetermined route from Albino, Italy, to the northernmost point in Europe, Nordkapp, Norway, on a single tank of gas.
The journey started on June 7 and after 7 days the Acerbis Motorsport team completed the above mentioned route.
Acerbis is an Italian motorcycle parts company, famous for customizing motorcycle fuel tanks. This year the Acerbis brand celebrates its 50th anniversary and they want to get into the record books, to polish their name.
Acerbis created the Acerbis Motorsport team to design and build a special oversized fuel tank that fits perfectly on the Honda Monkey.
The trio of riders traveled 4,183 kilometers on a Honda Monkey motorbike without having to refuel.
Thanks to this fuel tank, Acerbis believes the car can set a new Guinness World Record for distance traveled on a single tank of fuel.
According to the original design, the Honda Monkey uses a 125cc engine and a 5.6 liter fuel tank.
The car is equipped with a 4-speed gearbox, reaching a maximum speed of 91km/h, with an average fuel consumption of about 1.49 liters/100km.
They custom-built an oversized fuel tank that fits perfectly on the bike, holding 108 liters (28.53 gallons) of gasoline, on the body of the Honda Monkey.
To accommodate the weight of 108 liters of gasoline, the car's suspension system is also reinforced to handle a load nearly twice as heavy as normal.
The Honda Monkey motorbike has a redesigned fuel tank that holds 108 liters, allowing the bike to travel nearly 4,200km.
With a fuel tank larger than a car's fuel tank, this motorbike can theoretically travel 7,250km before needing to refuel.
As for the driver lineup, Acerbis has assembled a team of three riders who will rotate drivers along the way, including driver Andrea Rastrelli, journalist Alicia Sornosa and journalist Maurizio Vettor.
On June 14, 2023, a representative of the Guinness World Records organization awarded a record certificate to the Acerbis Motorsport team with the Honda car with the above 108-liter fuel tank, in the town of Nordkapp in Norway.
