Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh , Standing member of the Secretariat Luong Cuong and other leaders of the Central Government and Hanoi City attended.

At the ceremony, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh emphasized that 1014 years ago, in the fall of 1010, continuing the nation-building career of the Hung Kings and ancestors, King Ly Cong Uan, with his strategic vision, decided to move the capital from Hoa Lu to Thang Long, opening a period of glorious development for Dai Viet.

From that historical milestone to the Ho Chi Minh era, through more than a millennium, with many ups and downs, Thang Long-Hanoi still exists forever, steadfast, with a proud spirit, worthy of being the heart of an independent, free and happy Vietnam.

Through the history of fighting to build and defend the country, along with the work of building and protecting the peace, independence and freedom of the country, Hanoi has been honored by the people at home and international friends, conferred noble titles such as "Capital of conscience and human dignity", "City for peace", "Creative city"; and was awarded the title "Heroic Capital" by the Party and State.

As part of a series of events celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital, the “Cultural Festival for Peace” aims to spread the message about the value of culture, peace and the creativity of the people of Thang Long-Hanoi through the ages.

In particular, this event is truly a festival of Hanoi people because it is carried out by thousands of people, the capital's people, participating in recreating the historical milestones of the capital through the ages; introducing and performing tangible and intangible cultural heritages, festivals and typical craft villages of the capital...

The impressive highlight is the live performance recreating the important historical moment of the Capital and the country on October 10, 1954, when the army marched to take over the Capital in the sky full of flags, flowers and the joy of victory, ending 9 years of arduous and fierce resistance with countless sacrifices, losses and the heroic and indomitable spirit of our people against a powerful enemy, writing an epic in the revolutionary cause of our Party and our nation.

In addition, the “Cultural Festival for Peace” is also an opportunity to honor the culture and cultural identity for peace of the capital Hanoi, the land of talented people, where the heroic spirit of Thang Long is preserved, the sacred soul of mountains and rivers, the place where Vietnamese intelligence crystallizes and shines, and human conscience and dignity shines.

"The 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital; the 25th anniversary of Hanoi being awarded the title "City for Peace" is also an opportunity for us to continue affirming the noble qualities and fine traditions: Culture, Heroism, Peace, Friendship of the Capital and the Vietnamese people. That is also the way of life, the ethics and behavior, the cultural tradition, the aspiration for peace of the people of Hanoi, of the Vietnamese people. That is also the priceless heritage left by our ancestors. We cherish, have the responsibility to preserve, promote, spread and pass it on to future generations," said Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Pauline Tamesis, United Nations Resident Coordinator and Head of the United Nations Organizations in Vietnam, affirmed that Hanoi, with more than 1,000 years of culture and history, has always demonstrated a spirit of resilience and regeneration. After the historic liberation day, the leaders and people of the capital have revived, building a city full of innovation, integration and prosperity. The title "City for Peace" awarded by UNESCO in 1999 and the recognition of the city as a Creative City by UNESCO in 2019 emphasize the city's efforts to reinvent itself year by year.

According to her, the United Nations has always maintained a long-term and effective partnership with the Capital (Hanoi) and we have accompanied the city in its spectacular transformation, especially since Hanoi was recognized by UNESCO as the first Creative City in Vietnam.

"The city has made joint efforts to preserve both tangible and intangible heritage, thereby highlighting the intersection between Hanoi's history and modern and innovative elements. The Hanoi government is highly determined to strengthen close cooperation between the public and private sectors to develop a creative and cultural industry with young people as the core. It can be seen that Hanoi has clearly identified culture as an important driving force for socio-economic development," said Ms. Pauline Tamesis.
