Vietnam Social Security said the main reason for this increase is that many officials and civil servants retired early or quit their jobs according to the policy of streamlining the apparatus according to Decrees No. 177 and 178/2024/ND-CP of the Government .
Faced with the increasing number of retirees, units under and affiliated to Vietnam Social Security have proactively adjusted their business processes and updated software to suit the new organizational model to ensure that pension payments are smooth and do not affect the rights of employees.
It is estimated that by the end of May 2025, the whole country will have about 19.56 million people participating in social insurance; 15.7 million people participating in unemployment insurance and 93.56 million people participating in health insurance.
Notably, the number of people choosing to withdraw social insurance at one time continued to decrease sharply, with more than 91,000 people, equivalent to a decrease of 18.8% compared to the same period last year.
This is a positive signal, showing that workers have a clearer awareness of the long-term benefits of participating in and maintaining social insurance for 15 years as prescribed by the Social Insurance Law 2024. This also demonstrates the spillover effect of the new Social Insurance Law, although the law has not officially come into effect.
