Responding to World Immunization Week

On August 22, the Ministry of Health held a national online conference to respond to World Immunization Week 2024 and launch the Measles vaccination campaign. Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan chaired the conference; attending the conference at the Son La provincial bridge were leaders of the Department of Health, the provincial Center for Disease Control, representatives of the provincial General Hospital, Medical Centers, and General Hospitals of several districts and cities.

The Expanded Program on Immunization was initiated by the World Health Organization (WHO) and established in 1974 to ensure equitable access to vaccines to protect and save children worldwide. The Expanded Program on Immunization in Vietnam has been widely implemented throughout the country for nearly 40 years for priority groups such as children and women. The Expanded Program on Immunization has made an important contribution to the achievement of eliminating polio in 2000, eliminating neonatal tetanus in 2005, and significantly reducing the incidence of dangerous infectious diseases.

With the theme "Joining hands to vaccinate against epidemics for a healthy Vietnam", Immunization Week 2024 takes place from April 24-30, 2024, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Global Expanded Program on Immunization. This is an opportunity to honor the achievements of Expanded Program on Immunization, highlight the impact of the Expanded Program on Immunization in saving lives, protecting human health, and promoting innovative initiatives to strengthen this important immunization work.

Speaking at the Conference, the Minister of Health requested: Provincial Health Departments continue to deploy measles vaccination in high-risk areas after providing guidance and screening for subjects aged 1-4 who have not received enough doses of vaccine. Direct vaccination facilities to increase catch-up and catch-up vaccination for subjects who have not been vaccinated or have not been fully vaccinated; continue to organize regular vaccination to ensure the rate, safety, effectiveness, and compliance with regulations. At the same time, implement communication activities on vaccination and respond to World Immunization Week, launching the measles vaccination campaign in 2024.
