The workshop was held at Tien Phong Newspaper Office ( Hanoi ) and was connected online with two localities: Krong Pac District (Dak Lak Province) and Phong Dien District (Can Tho City).
At the Krong Pac district bridge, there were more than 100 delegates representing the Party Committee, government, Fatherland Front, Farmers' Association and durian trading enterprises, agricultural material trading enterprises, cooperatives, cooperative groups and a number of durian farmers in the area.
At the workshop, delegates focused on analyzing the current situation of rapid development, shortcomings in production and quality supervision, especially the issues of cadmium, O-yellow and the export market of the durian industry.

Accordingly, in less than 3 years, durian has risen to become one of the main agricultural export products, the largest among Vietnamese fruits and vegetables, bringing in more than 3.2 billion USD in 2024, a proud record number for Vietnamese agricultural products.
However, durian exports are facing many consequences from rapid growth, such as fraudulent growing area codes, unsynchronized production, lack of input quality control, warnings about cadmium residue exceeding the threshold...
The Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection has announced the main causes of cadmium contamination in soil, including: soil factors, including many farming areas not being allowed to rest, causing cadmium contamination in soil; people's habit of using more fertilizer in some areas than recommended.
Frankly acknowledging the current situation and shortcomings, delegates attending the workshop proposed comprehensive, multi-dimensional solutions to help durian overcome immediate challenges and develop sustainably, becoming Vietnam's key billion-dollar fruit and vegetable industry.
Proposed solutions include: establishing a quality monitoring system from the source, strengthening testing at durian production facilities; issuing regulations and sanctions strong enough to handle violations of quality, food safety and trade fraud; establishing codes of conduct and market rules; applying technology to monitor quality and provide early warning of risks, etc.
