Intel to Launch AI Battlemage Graphics Card with 24GB DRAM

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên30/12/2024

According to Tom'shardware , Intel is planning to boost the VRAM capacity of the next generation Battlemage GPU with 24 GB of VRAM next year. This information is also confirmed by shipping documents discovered on the X platform, showing a clamshell design on the BMG-G21 IC, allowing the use of 12 GDDR6 modules with a capacity of 16 GB. This GPU is positioned for professional audiences, likely in the Pro or Flex line.

Intel officially introduced its entry-level Battlemage line this month with the upcoming Arc B580 and Arc B570. The Arc B580 has been met with positive feedback, with demand far exceeding supply. Intel is rumored to have developed at least three versions of the Battlemage chipset, including the BMG-G31, BMG-G21, and BMG-G10. The BMG-G21 is the foundation for the Arc B580, featuring a 192-bit memory interface and 20 Xe2 cores.

Intel's Xe2 core is the second generation of the Xe GPU architecture, designed to improve graphics performance and support Ray Tracing technology.

The 24GB Battlemage GPU, expected to launch in 2025, is targeted at the professional market. This suggests that it is not intended for consumers, but could be a successor to the Alchemist-based Flex or Pro series. Target audiences include data centers, edge computing, scientific research, and personal development.

Currently, the Arc Pro A60 series — the top GPU in the Arc Pro family — only has 12 GB of VRAM. Video memory capacity is important for training AI models and handling inference of large language models. Other competitors to Intel have reached 48 GB of VRAM, such as AMD's Radeon W7000 series or Nvidia's Ada Lovelace workstation series. However, the BMG-G21 is designed to compete with the RTX 4060, not high-end models like the RTX 4090 or RTX 6000 Ada. A more realistic competitor would be the RTX 2000 Ada with 16 GB of VRAM or the Radeon Pro W7600 with 8 GB of VRAM.

Intel is expected to reveal more information next month, but with a 2025 timeframe, it’s hard to pinpoint exactly when the GPU will officially launch.
