Not long after the new generation of iPhones hit the shelves, many users complained that the iPhone 17 models were too easily scratched, even on devices displayed at Apple Stores.

The scratches are mostly on the back of the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, especially around the MagSafe cutout, which also raises questions about the durability of the materials Apple is using on this year's iPhones.

In an interview with 9to5mac , Apple said that worn MagSafe charging docks in stores are the cause of scratches on the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The company added that these are not actually scratches, but material from the dock that sticks to the phone.

According to Apple, these scratches can be removed by cleaning. Apple will fix the problem in stores, and the company said other models such as the iPhone 16 are also affected by the same cause.

However, user tests show that the camera bump area on the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max is very susceptible to scratches. In a video from the JerryRigEverything channel, many areas on the iPhone 17 Pro are much more susceptible to scratches than the previous version.

Meanwhile, Apple says that the camera cluster on the iPhone 17 Pro has similar characteristics to the aluminum housing on devices like the MacBook. The edges are designed to be durable and undergo testing before release.

That said, the company also states that users may expect normal wear and tear including minor scratches over time.
