On the afternoon of August 13, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Information and Communications , Minister Nguyen Manh Hung and Deputy Ministers of the Ministry of Information and Communications had a friendly meeting with former leaders of the Information and Communications sector through the periods. This is an event in a series of activities to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the establishment of the Information and Communications sector.

As a new feature compared to previous years, the meeting of former leaders of the Information and Communications sector was attended by former Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Do Trung Ta; former Minister of Information and Communications Le Doan Hop; former Deputy Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, former Director General of the General Department of Posts Mai Liem Truc; former Deputy Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Dang Dinh Lam; and former Deputy Ministers of Information and Communications Le Nam Thang, Tran Duc Lai, Do Quy Doan, Nguyen Minh Hong, Nguyen Thanh Hung, Pham Hong Hai, Hoang Vinh Bao.

At the meeting, former leaders of the Information and Communications sector listened to the Deputy Ministers of the Ministry of Information and Communications report on the results of recent work in the areas assigned by the Minister such as: Science and technology, international cooperation, digital transformation, press and media, publishing, grassroots information, foreign information, telecommunications, radio frequencies, Internet, internal affairs, postal services, ICT industry, etc.

Pointing out the outstanding tasks that have been and are being focused on by the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Deputy Ministers of the Ministry of Information and Communications all emphasized that the pioneering tradition and breakthrough ways of the industry are continuing to be inherited and promoted by the current generation of officials, civil servants, public employees and workers in the information and communications industry.

Recalling the major viewpoints and lessons such as "going straight into digital technology" and "using the outside to support the inside" that have contributed positively to the first innovation of the industry, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Phan Tam pointed out: In this second innovation, science, technology and international cooperation also need to make worthy contributions.

Besides analyzing the differences in science, technology and international cooperation today compared to before, Deputy Minister Phan Tam also reported to the previous generation of leaders about two outstanding science, technology and international cooperation activities of the Ministry of Information and Communications recently.

That is, building and publishing a digital technology map in the industry's fields to serve as a tool to support management, forecasting, leading, and jointly deciding on the acceptance of applications, investment in research and development of technology; The program supports digital technology enterprises to go abroad, with the goal of expanding development space, maturing through challenges and participating in contributing knowledge to the world.

As the leader in charge of digital transformation, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Pham Duc Long reported to former industry leaders on the results and lessons learned after nearly 5 years of implementing the National Digital Transformation Program, and the tasks the Ministry will focus on in 2024 in the three areas of digital governance, digital economic development, and digital data.

Up to now, awareness of digital transformation has been raised, successful digital transformation models have existed but are still localized. Therefore, in the coming time, it is necessary to focus on popularizing and replicating nationwide successful digital transformation models of ministries, sectors and localities.

“If it is popularized, Vietnam's digital transformation will be successful!” , Deputy Minister Pham Duc Long emphasized.

Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Lam said that in the current period, when all activities are shifting to the digital environment, the fields of press, media, publishing, grassroots information, and foreign information are all expanding their space and have great potential for development. For example, grassroots information has become an important media force, while digital publishing, electronic publishing, and audiobooks have great potential for development.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Lam also commented: The combination of the two advantages of the industry, technology and content, was laid down since the time of the General Department of Posts and Telecommunications, Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, with the proof being the birth of VTC Digital Station 20 years ago.

“Up to now, the story of using technology to promote content in the field of journalism and media has been identified as the right direction and development trend,” Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Lam shared.

After 8 months of directly managing and operating the telecommunications, Internet, and radio frequency sectors, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Huy Dung chose to report 3 important results: Vietnam successfully organized an auction of 3 frequency bands to deploy 5G mobile technology; Approved the Strategy for developing Vietnam's international optical cable system to 2030, with the goal of increasing the total available capacity from 35 Tbps to 350 Tbps; Initiative to popularize the national domain name .vn for businesses, business households, and individuals aged 18-23, with a policy of exempting 2 years of domain name maintenance fees for these subjects.

Assigned to be in charge of internal affairs, internal digital transformation, postal services and ICT industry, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Bui Hoang Phuong shared with the previous generation of leaders of the information and communications sector about the difficulties, challenges, and orientations and approaches of the Ministry of Information and Communications in these areas of work.

Regarding the postal sector, commenting that this is a sector that is changing rapidly, Deputy Minister Bui Hoang Phuong said that the Ministry of Information and Communications will study and amend the Postal Law to have appropriate policies, thereby promoting the healthy and sustainable development of the postal market. Regarding the ICT industry, the two important tasks that the Ministry of Information and Communications is focusing on are building the Law on Digital Technology Industry and the Strategy for the development of Vietnam's semiconductor industry until 2030.

Continuing the pioneering mission of the industry

Through the reports of the Deputy Ministers of the Ministry of Information and Communications, the former leaders of the information and communications sector expressed their confidence that the current generation of leaders will continue to be worthy successors and strongly develop the sector and the country. Former Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Do Trung Ta commented that the leaders of the Ministry of Information and Communications have continued the tradition of the sector, increasing the pride of those who have worked, are working and will work in the information and communications sector.

Affirming that the Ministry of Information and Communications, especially its leaders, always inherit the past and open up a new future for development, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung also shared two recent encouraging signs of the industry: The total revenue of Vietnamese digital technology enterprises from foreign markets reached 7.5 billion USD last year and could reach 10 billion USD this year; 5G equipment produced by Vietnamese people has been officially inspected and certified by the Ministry of Information and Communications to meet quality standards.

The leaders of the Ministry of Information and Communications also expressed their hope that in the coming time, they will continue to receive attention and guidance from previous generations of leaders so that the current team can fulfill their tasks well, especially in carrying out the mission of an industry that is always a pioneer in the construction and development of the country.

As planned, as part of a series of activities to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the establishment of the Information and Communications sector, from now until August 28, the Ministry of Information and Communications will organize a meeting to honor veteran revolutionary cadres, former leaders, and retired cadres of the Information and Communications sector in the three regions of the North, Central, and South.
