Nicholas Kergozou (right) narrowly won stage 25 of the Ho Chi Minh City Television Cup 205
After nearly a month of exciting competition with a total route of nearly 3,000km, the racers have entered stage 25 (the final stage) of the Ho Chi Minh City Television Cup - Ton Dong A 2025 with a route of 139km from Tay Ninh City to Ho Chi Minh City.
Immediately after the start, attacks broke out continuously, helping a group of riders escape. After sprint 1 (Pham Quoc Thien was the winner), the leading group had 7 riders entering, creating a gap of up to more than 2 minutes compared to the large group.
The most impressive was the lone escape attempt of Nguyen Truc Xinh (HCMC – New Group). He led the race alone on a rather long route and at one point created a gap of nearly 1 minute over his pursuers.
But at the decisive stage, the Vinh Long team rushed forward, pulling the large group at a very high speed to catch up. As a result, the racing group caught up with the HCM City – New Group cyclist when there were still more than 6km left and then rushed to the finish line.
In the sprint phase, the Vinh Long team was under fierce attack from their opponents. In order to "break" the sprint of Nicholas Kergozou (620 Vinh Long Agriculture ), Ethan Batt (Le Fruit Maxxis Dong Nai) suddenly attacked with high speed and long range.
Immediately, Ivan Blokhin (Gao Hat Ngoc Troi An Giang) pulled Loic Desriac (Duoc Domesco Dong Thap) to follow. Even though he fell behind, the New Zealand racer still tried his best in every step to catch up.
In the last 300m, the cyclists sprinted in unison, creating a breathless competition. After crossing the finish line, no racer celebrated because it was still unclear who the winner was.
It was not until after reviewing the videotape that Nicholas Kergozou's name was called, when he narrowly surpassed Savva Novikov (Binh Minh Binh Duong Plastics) to reach the first place.
The 11th victory in this tournament also helped Nicholas Kergozou break Petr Rikunov's record to become the person with the most stage wins in a Ho Chi Minh City Television Cup race.
Mikhail Fokin won the yellow jersey at the final of the 2025 Ho Chi Minh City Television Cup
Present in the top group at the final stage, Mikhail Fokin (Loc Troi An Giang Group) officially won the final yellow jersey worth 200 million VND of the Ho Chi Minh City Television Cup 2025. Mikhail Fokin's impressive performance also contributed greatly to helping Loc Troi An Giang Group win the team championship.
Meanwhile, Nicholas Kergozou proved himself worthy of the overall green jersey for the King of Sprints.
Other titles remained unchanged as Nguyen Hoang Sang (Le Fruit Maxxis Dong Nai) won the orange jersey for the best Vietnamese racer.
Pham Le Xuan Loc (Military Zone 7) wore the final white jersey for the best young racer. Savva Novikov (Binh Minh Binh Duong Plastics) was the King of the Mountain of the tournament.
This year, the organizers and sponsor Ton Dong A spent more than 2.5 billion VND to award scholarships to studious students in difficult circumstances and to local funds where the race passed through.
At the closing ceremony, Ton Dong A awarded more than 1.5 billion VND to units such as the Naval Region 2 Command of Ho Chi Minh City Police, University of Technology - Ho Chi Minh City National University (Faculty of Materials Technology), Binh Duong Province Children's Support Fund, Binh Duong Province Red Cross,...
