Combining traditional medicine with modern medicine in the treatment of non-communicable diseases

NDO - On the morning of December 26, in Ha Tinh city, the Ministry of Health coordinated with the People's Committee of Ha Tinh province to organize the 3rd National Traditional Medicine and Pharmacy Scientific Conference with the theme "Traditional medicine combined with modern medicine in the treatment of non-communicable diseases" and organized the "7th and 8th Hai Thuong Lan Ong Awards Ceremony for Traditional Medicine and Pharmacy".

The 3rd National Conference on Traditional Medicine is one of the activities responding to the event celebrating the 300th anniversary of the birth of famous physician Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac (1724-2024).

The conference received the participation of organizations, scientists, researchers, and managers nationwide in the field of traditional medicine with 27 scientific reports from prestigious organizations and scientists nationwide focusing on research, affirming the value, stature of the life and career of the famous physician Hai Thuong Lan Ong; at the same time, focusing on analyzing and clarifying the role and effectiveness of combining traditional medicine with modern medicine in the treatment of diseases in general, and non-communicable diseases in particular.

Delegates also announced the results of scientific research topics; proposed many new solutions, contributing to promoting the strong development of traditional medicine, bringing practical benefits in people's health care.

The research results and opinions presented at the conference are the basis for the health sector to inherit and develop the knowledge and thoughts of the great physician Hai Thuong Lan Ong in a direction consistent with the policies and guidelines for the development of Vietnamese medicine, contributing to the health sector fulfilling its responsibility of caring for and protecting people's health.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Health, Do Xuan Tuyen emphasized: Vietnamese traditional medicine is a unique system, with a long history of formation during thousands of years of struggle to build and defend the country of the nation, has existed with the development of the Vietnamese people, traditional medicine has great potential and role and has contributed a significant part in the cause of caring for and protecting people's health.

Vietnamese people have always been proud of having famous doctors such as the great Zen master Tue Tinh, the great physician Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac..., or as Uncle Ho advised in a letter to the health sector: "You must promote our medicine, and know how to combine Western and Vietnamese medicine."

On this occasion, the Ministry of Health held the 7th and 8th Hai Thuong Lan Ong Awards ceremony for traditional medicine. Accordingly, the 7th award was given to 54 individuals and the 8th award was given to 80 individuals with achievements in inheriting, preserving and developing traditional medicine.
