At the opening ceremony, the film “Boléro” by veteran French director Anne Fontaine was screened. “Boléro” also represented France in the Cinematic Crossroads category of the Film Festival, which honors the cinema of a country or city with outstanding achievements and influence, as well as special cultural, diplomatic and artistic relations with Ho Chi Minh City.

Mr. Duong Anh Duc, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee spoke at the opening ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Duong Anh Duc said that Ho Chi Minh City is considered a large market in the field of film production and distribution in the country with a strong workforce of filmmakers and a large number of films produced annually, diverse, rich and of many genres. Along with that, the film industry is identified as one of the 8 key industries, with an average growth rate of about 12%/year, reaching over 5,000 billion VND (of which Vietnamese films account for about 30% of revenue), contributing about 0.4% of GRDP by 2025. In particular, the activities of international film festivals contribute to attracting investment promotion activities in the film industry in particular and the cultural industry in general, contributing to economic growth for Ho Chi Minh City.
The Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee hopes that the Film Festival will create a film event that contributes to making the City a filmmaking destination for domestic and international film crews, towards forming a Film City, recognized as a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN Network).
Director and producer Hong Anh shared: “Ho Chi Minh City is a vibrant film market, with film activities with the highest revenue in the country. Therefore, an international film festival will be an opportunity for filmmakers to exchange experiences, nurturing their love of cinema on the ups and downs of filmmaking.”

Ho Chi Minh City leaders presented flowers to express gratitude to experts at the Film Festival.
