
On the evening of November 21, the opening ceremony of the 24th Vietnam Film Festival and the ceremony to announce Ho Chi Minh City joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (cinema field) took place at the Thong Nhat Hall (Ho Chi Minh City).
Attending leaders included Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh; Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc; Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism , Head of the Steering Committee of the 24th Vietnam Film Festival Ta Quang Dong; Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Head of the Steering Committee of the 24th Vietnam Film Festival Tran Thi Dieu Thuy; Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports Tran The Thuan; leaders of central ministries, branches, and local People's Committees...


Vietnam Film Festival and Creative City of Cinema
Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc spoke at the opening ceremony and the announcement ceremony of the creative cinema city: "This noble title is not a destination but a beginning that places greater responsibilities on the city's shoulders.
We are deeply aware that joining the Creative Cities Network means that the city must join hands with its members to promote sustainable development based on culture and creativity. The 24th Vietnam Film Festival is a great opportunity for Ho Chi Minh City to fulfill that strong commitment.”
Mr. Jonathan Baker, Chief Representative of UNESCO Office in Vietnam, on behalf of UNESCO, sent his deep condolences for the losses and difficulties caused by recent floods in Vietnam's provinces.
UNESCO has been working with central and local authorities to support disaster risk reduction.
"On behalf of UNESCO, I am very honored to announce that Ho Chi Minh City has been officially registered as a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of cinema.
This title is not only the result of an outstanding record, but also a testament to the city's strong commitment to placing creativity at the heart of its sustainable development strategy, as well as recognizing culture as an essential pillar for a dynamic, resilient and inclusive urban future," said Mr. Jonathan Baker.

The special moment of the event was the ceremony to receive the title of Creative City of Cinema. Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc; Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong and Mr. Jonathan Baker went on stage to perform this ceremony.
Next, Mr. Soulier Eric Gabriel Michel, Counselor for Cooperation and Cultural Activities, French Embassy in Vietnam, presented the handbook Ho Chi Minh City - Film Production Destination to Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports Tran The Thuan.
This is a gift from France to Ho Chi Minh City to help promote the city's image, spreading cultural and creative values to tourists and international friends.
