Hidden under the canopy of the old forest in Ton hamlet, Van Son commune, Phu Tho province, Nam Son cave, also known as Ton cave, is one of the caves recognized by scientists as having formed about 250 million years ago in Ngoc Son-Ngo Luong Nature Reserve.

The cave was discovered in 2004, attracting the interest of tourists to explore because of its pristine, mysterious and geological value.

Journey through the forest to the "wonder in the heart of the mountain"

From the center of Van Son commune, following the road towards Ton hamlet about 4 km, visitors will reach the starting point of the journey to explore Nam Son cave.

Accompanying the VNA reporter were officers from the Van Son Commune Culture Department, tourists and guards who have been with the cave for more than 20 years since it was discovered.

To reach the cave, you need to go through a long journey of about 45 minutes, crossing the path through the bamboo forest, along the slippery cliffs, bringing a completely natural experience. Each step is like touching a wild land that is gradually awakening.

Amidst the mountainous forest space of Ngoc Son - Ngo Luong Nature Reserve, the entrance to Nam Son Cave appears solidly with a signboard reading "Nam Son Cave - National scenic relic."

Over time, the moss layer covers this place, making it even more quiet, evoking a mysterious beauty in the middle of the wild mountains and forests.

Unlike the small and narrow entrance, inside Nam Son Cave is a completely different world with a vast and mysterious space. Located at an altitude of nearly 1,000m above sea level, Nam Son Cave is about 455m long, divided into three main chambers.

The middle chamber has the largest space with a clear emerald green lake, the remaining chambers stand out with stalactites of many beautiful shapes and colors. According to the cave guard, the lake is up to 7m deep and is likened to a "sky well" nestled in the heart of an ancient limestone block.

The climate in the cave is always cool, the system of stalactites, stalagmites, stone curtains, and stone pillars in the cave is rich in shape, sharp and highly preserved, reflecting millions of years of formation, almost completely protected and preserved.

Mr. Dinh Van Phuong, Van Son commune - the person who has protected Nam Son cave for more than 20 years shared that the cave was discovered by local people a long time ago, when the cave entrance began to be exposed.

However, the dense darkness inside prevented anyone from daring to explore further. It was only when a group of farmers ran out of drinking water and were forced to light torches and shine lights inside to find water that the amazing beauty of Nam Son cave was discovered, leaving everyone stunned.

Later, the large emerald green lake and the beauty of the unique stalactites opened up many journeys to explore Nam Son cave for many scientists, domestic and foreign tourists who love caves and adventure travel.

Expected to become a prominent destination of Phu Tho tourism

After the journey to explore Nam Son cave, Ms. Tran Hoai Tam (Hanoi) shared: “I have been to many caves in Vietnam, but Nam Son has a wild, quiet and almost original beauty. What is special is that Nam Son cave is a combination of two types of terrain - dry cave and water cave. Our trip to the ancient land of Muong Bi would be a real regret if we did not explore Nam Son cave.”

Inside Nam Son cave, stalagmites and stalactites have countless rich shapes, some like a bed, some like terraced fields, some reminiscent of a reclining elephant, a sleeping crane or a flock of swans...

All blend together to create a natural "masterpiece", a unique feature of Nam Son cave, contributing to the unique value of Van Son commune and Muong Bi region, Phu Tho province.

According to Mr. Bui Van Phuong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Van Son commune, Nam Son cave is located in a very wild terrain area that has not been exploited much.

With a clear mineral spring flowing through the cave and the original landscape, this place has great advantages for developing community tourism. The commune government is building a tourism development project, in which Nam Son cave is an important highlight, combined with Thung waterfall, Nui Kien cave and a group of 11 thousand-year-old nghien trees in Bo Tram hamlet, creating a series of ideal destinations for discovery and experience tourism.

With a geological age of hundreds of millions of years, pristine beauty and the ability to visit all year round thanks to its "warm winter - cool summer" characteristics, Nam Son Cave is gradually becoming a prominent tourist destination of Phu Tho.

In the coming time, the Van Son commune government will continue to add facilities to serve tourists, while focusing on developing a community tourism model. The goal is to connect caves and typical tourist attractions with Muong villages, creating unique tourism products that both preserve nature and provide sustainable livelihoods for local people.

Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Phu Tho province, Bui Xuan Truong, shared that the systematic investment and sustainable development orientation of the local government of Van Son commune and Phu Tho province are expected to turn Van Son into a "green gem" of Muong Bi land.

This is a place that preserves the original beauty of ancient Muong culture, opening up opportunities to develop community tourism, a top destination in the journeys of tourists when coming to Phu Tho and the Northwest mountainous region./.
