The project to renovate and upgrade provincial road 676 connecting Kon Plong district (Kon Tum) with Son Tay and Son Ha districts (Quang Ngai) was identified by the Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee as one of the key infrastructure projects, contributing to promoting socio-economic development and strengthening traffic connections between the Central Highlands and the Central Coast.

With a total investment of up to 1,300 billion VND, the project is expected to create a new breakthrough for the two provinces of Kon Tum and Quang Ngai in attracting investment, developing tourism and high-tech agricultural economy.

According to the design, Provincial Road 676 is about 62 km long, with a 9 m wide roadbed, cement concrete road surface and 8 m wide reinforced sidewalk system, meeting the standards of a grade III mountain road. In addition, in the difficult and complex terrain sections, the construction unit has applied the technical standards of grade IV and grade V mountain roads to ensure feasibility as well as safety for people traveling.

Hundreds of workers and large machines were mobilized to build the road day and night.

Mr. Phung Van Long, representative of the Kon Tum Province Traffic, Civil and Industrial Construction Investment Management Board, said: “Up to now, the site clearance work for the project has been basically completed, and the construction units are focusing on the leveling and roadbed treatment stages. The most difficult task at present is the construction of large sections of earthen slopes, requiring a large amount of modern machinery, equipment and manpower.

To meet the volume requirements of the project, the construction units have mobilized more large-capacity machinery and hundreds of workers, coordinating smoothly and methodically to completely resolve the most difficult sections."

According to Mr. Long, Route 676 has complex mountainous terrain and is currently in the early stages of the rainy season, so the construction work is facing many difficulties. To exceed the construction schedule, the construction unit has arranged workers to work 3 shifts/day, working day and night to complete the route.

"We have identified the completion of this route by the end of 2025 as a major goal, as this will be a strong boost to economic, cultural and tourism development for the two provinces of Kon Tum and Quang Ngai. In addition, when completed, Provincial Road 676 will not only significantly reduce the load on National Highway 24, but also create an effective logistics corridor between the two provinces. This is also an important foundation for developing resort tourism models, eco-tourism and high-tech agricultural projects, promoting trade and improving the quality of life of the people." - Mr. Long said.

According to Resolution 60 of the Central Committee issued on April 12, Kon Tum province and Quang Ngai province were merged, named Quang Ngai province, the political and administrative center is located in the current Quang Ngai province.
