According to local residents, after heavy rains lasting from mid-October 2025 until now, many locations at Hoa Son Cemetery (Hoa Khanh Ward) have experienced landslides and rocks sliding down the road, threatening the safety of thousands of graves located near hillsides and cliffs.

On the hillsides, cracks tens of meters long appeared. In some sections, the rainwater flowed rapidly, creating deep grooves in the rock layer, carrying mud and soil down to the internal roads in the cemetery.

On many internal roads such as: Road No. 3, No. 5, No. 7, No. 8... thick mud appeared covering the paths, making it difficult for people and vehicles to move.

Visiting Hoa Son Cemetery to check her relatives' graves after heavy rain, Ms. Le Thanh Vy, a resident of Hoa Khanh ward, said: "Landslides here have been occurring for many years now. After each heavy rain, the roads leading to the graves are often covered with rocks and soil.

Many roads have degraded. We hope that the government and relevant agencies will upgrade the infrastructure and build embankments to prevent landslides to ensure the safety of the graves.

Mr. Dang Ngoc Tuan, Vice Chairman of Hoa Khanh Ward People's Committee, said that with the forecast of prolonged heavy rain due to the impact of storm No. 12 (Fengshen) in the coming days, in addition to the risk of flooding, the locality also faces the risk of landslides in mountainous areas, including the Hoa Son Cemetery area with more than 300 hectares and over 100,000 graves. Many steep slopes are likely to appear if heavy rain continues.

“Relevant local forces coordinate with the army and police to proactively deploy plans to prevent and combat natural disasters, especially the risk of landslides in the midlands, mountains and neighboring areas. The spirit is to ensure safety, life and property for the people,” said Mr. Tuan.

With Hoa Son Cemetery, the locality assigned forces to be ready to proactively coordinate with the Cemetery Management Board to warn, repair, clear roads, clean up, and overcome soil and rocks.

The Military Command of Hoa Khanh Ward proactively deployed response plans, increased inspection and survey of landslide sites in this area.

According to the Hoa Son Cemetery Management Board, learning from the serious landslide in the area in October 2022, the unit has increased patrols and inspections of locations at risk of landslides.

These points are marked on the map for monitoring. After each rain, continue to check the locations to assess the level of change, from there have a plan to handle and minimize risks.

Hoa Son Cemetery suffered a serious landslide after a historic heavy rain in October 2022, covering an area of more than 2 hectares, burying more than 600 graves.

According to Vice Chairman of Hoa Khanh Ward People's Committee Dang Ngoc Tuan, the mountainous area around Hoa Son Cemetery is being planted with acacia trees by local people, posing a potential risk of landslides.

The locality has proposed and recommended that the city and the Department of Agriculture and Environment have a plan to guide people to change their occupations such as planting large timber trees and perennial trees to limit landslides.
