Survey to prepare for the Song Doc Whale Festival in 2025

On the morning of March 5, 2025, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism coordinated with the People's Committee of Tran Van Thoi district to conduct a survey and work in Song Doc town on preparations for the organization of the Song Doc Whale Festival in 2025.

The Nghinh Ong Song Doc Festival is held annually according to traditional customs to preserve, conserve and promote the value of the national intangible cultural heritage of the Nghinh Ong Song Doc Festival, while honoring the cultural traditions and fine folk beliefs of coastal residents to meet the spiritual needs of local fishermen; creating a joyful and exciting atmosphere, contributing to building and enriching the spiritual and cultural life of the people.

Meeting to review preparations for the Song Doc Whale Festival in 2025

According to the plan, the Nghinh Ong Song Doc Festival in 2025 will take place over 3 days, March 13, 14 and 15, 2025 (February 14, 15 and 16, At Ty year). The opening ceremony will take place at 6:00 p.m. on March 13, 2025 at Lang Ong Song Doc; The Nghinh Ong ceremony will start at 11:00 a.m. on March 14, 2025 (Full Moon of the 2nd lunar month). The Long Dinh procession will depart from Lang Ong Song Doc, passing through the main roads towards Song Doc Fishing Port to board a boat to the sea to perform the Nghinh Ong rituals according to traditional customs. After completing the Nghinh Ong ritual at sea, the Long Dinh procession will return to the main hall of Lang Ong Song Doc to perform the pre-lecture offering and main ceremony offering rituals in the evening of the same day.

At Lang Ong Song Doc, the Nghinh Ong Song Doc Festival will take place from March 13-15, 2025 (February 14-16 of the lunar calendar).

Many activities will take place in Song Doc town during the festival. Notably, the organization of a trade festival to introduce OCOP products and seafood consumer goods, local products and staples, and folk culinary activities; the display and exhibition of images, documents, and artifacts about the national intangible cultural heritage of the Song Doc Whale Festival combined with extracurricular activities. In particular, at this year's festival, there will be unique art performances, typically: An art program recreating the formation and development of the Song Doc Whale Festival, performed by the Provincial Cultural Center; A comprehensive music and dance program; A reformed opera performance; A program of exchanging amateur music and dance between amateur music and dance clubs in the district, etc.

Sports activities take place from March 11 to 13, 2025 with traditional sports and folk games such as: football, volleyball, badminton, athletics, tug of war, sack race, net mending, cycling, rowing, with the participation of people in Song Doc town and localities in Tran Van Thoi district.
