England star Phil Foden has left the England squad for EURO 2024 and returned home due to "urgent family matters".
"Phil Foden has temporarily left England's training camp and returned to the United Kingdom due to an urgent family matter," the FA said in a statement.
According to British media, Foden returned home to welcome the birth of his third child. Previously, the Manchester City striker had two children with his partner Rebecca Cooke, a boy and a girl.
Ronnie, Foden's son, who is famous on Instagram with millions of followers, revealed in April that the Foden family was expecting a third child. The family sighed and posed while reading "Baby Foden" alongside a photo shared on Ronnie's Instagram account.
Foden is famous not only for his football talent, but also for becoming a father at a very young age (18 years old). Over the years, the relationship between Foden and Rebecca Cooke has also gone through many ups and downs, but they have remained together to this day.
Foden still participated in England's final group stage match against Slovenia. After the match, the striker reportedly left the training camp and immediately flew back to England.
The Premier League Player of the Year for the 2023-2024 season started all three of England's EURO 2024 group stage matches. He played the full 90 minutes against Serbia, before being substituted in the draws against Denmark and Slovenia.
Foden has developed into an important player for the "Three Lions," having missed only one game since March 2023. Due to finishing the season later than his teammates, Foden was allowed to join the squad later and missed the friendly against Bosnia & Herzegovina.
The 24-year-old striker was a crucial link in The Citizens' journey to defend their Premier League title last season. Meanwhile, Foden also has 4 goals in 37 appearances for England, including a goal against Wales in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup.
While Foden has yet to score at EURO 2024, he contributed to a disallowed goal in England's match against Slovenia. Foden penetrated behind the opposing defense before passing the ball to Bukayo Saka, but the combination was ruled offside.
Foden is expected to return to Germany before June 30th, when England face Slovakia in the Round of 16 of EURO 2024.
