According to the Da Nang City Statistics Office, the city faced many difficulties last year, with production activities shrinking in scale due to reduced orders; the import-export sector was unfavorable due to international market demand. The city's goods exports were estimated at 1.8 billion USD, down 11.6%.
As the Lunar New Year 2024 approaches, the Tet bonus is the income that workers are looking forward to. Talking to reporters, many businesses in Da Nang City said that despite difficulties, they are still trying to maintain the same Tet bonus level as last year for workers.
Mr. Bui Minh Vu, Chairman of the Trade Union of Foster Electronics Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Hoa Cam Industrial Park, Da Nang), shared that the unit has about 900 workers. This year, revenue has decreased, not as much as last year, but the company still maintains the Tet bonus for employees, which is the 13th month salary and 0.8 month salary.
“We try to maintain the Tet bonus level to thank employees for their commitment and efforts throughout the past year. At the same time, through the Tet bonus policy, the company hopes to retain employees, encourage everyone to strive and complete the new year's targets,” said Mr. Vu.
Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Van Phu, Director of Daiwa Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Hoa Khanh Industrial Park, Da Nang), expressed that this year the company's business situation is difficult because partners such as the US, Europe... have cut orders. Although revenue has decreased by about 30%, the company still gives Tet bonuses to workers, at the rate of 1.3 months' salary. In addition to Tet bonuses, there are also diligence bonuses and other cash gifts.
“The company has about 3,500 workers. We keep the bonus the same as last year so that workers can return home for Tet and have a more fulfilling Tet. We know that workers are looking forward to this bonus,” said Mr. Phu.
At Mabuchi Motor Da Nang Co., Ltd., Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tan, Chairman of the Trade Union, informed that the company has about 3,500 employees. On this occasion of Tet, the company will reward each worker with a month's salary and support train and bus tickets to take workers home for Tet. In addition, the company's trade union will also support gifts worth 500,000 VND.
Having just temporarily closed the factory and laid off nearly 1,300 workers for 3 months due to lack of orders, Keyhinge Toys Vietnam (Lien Chieu District, Da Nang) recently announced that it will still pay Lunar New Year bonuses, a bonus of 1 month's salary for workers who have worked for 12 months.
Meanwhile, Mr. Tran Van Linh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Thuan Phuoc Seafood and Trading Joint Stock Company, said that his company has nearly 4,000 employees. At present, the company has not completed the final settlement, so there is no bonus for employees.
According to Mr. Linh, in previous years, when business performance was clear, the company announced the Tet bonus early, but this year, it is likely that the official bonus level will not be announced until January 20.
"This year, the company's revenue decreased by about 9% compared to last year. The reason is that consumption in other countries has decreased and production costs have increased. Seafood prices have decreased while transportation costs have increased, not to mention all costs have increased, so orders have only been signed in moderation.
In the first and second quarters of this year, I still thought the company would make a profit to give Tet bonuses to workers, but in December 2023, sea freight rates skyrocketed, up several dozen percent. The company's main market is Europe, so it was heavily impacted. Orders signed with partners at old prices, now that freight rates have skyrocketed, I have to bear it," Mr. Linh said.
“Every year, the company still gives Tet bonuses to retain workers. This year, the company will definitely give bonuses, but the amount of the bonus is still uncertain because it depends on the year-end settlement,” Mr. Linh shared.
