Huynh Thi My Tien burst into tears after the finish line when she learned she had won the gold medal, this was also the first gold medal for the athlete from Vinh Long after 3 times participating in the SEA Games.
Vietnamese athletics entered the afternoon of the third day of competition at the 32nd SEA Games with the final of the women's 100m hurdles. This event has 2 Vietnamese athletes participating, Bui Thi Nguyen and Huynh Thi My Tien, and Nguyen herself is also the current SEA Games champion in this event.
At the 31st SEA Games last year in Vietnam, My Tien competed in poor physical condition and could not win the highest position, but this year things were different as she competed with great determination for the goal of winning the gold medal in the women's 100m hurdles. With a time of 13.50 seconds, slightly better than the second place Bui Thi Nguyen (13.52 seconds), Huynh Thi My Tien has excellently won her first SEA Games gold medal. Tien could not hide her emotions and burst into tears when the results were announced. The athlete from Vinh Long smiled brightly with the gold medal she won. In an interview, My Tien said: "When I knew I was the first to reach the finish line, my emotions exploded. I want to dedicate this medal to my teacher for always worrying and taking care of me during the training and competition process."
In the men's 3,000m steeplechase, Nguyen Trung Cuong also brought home a gold medal with a time of 8 minutes 51 seconds 99, followed by Le Tien Long with a time of 8 minutes 53 seconds 62. The Vietnamese athlete couple appeared to be overwhelming their opponents, happily hugging each other to celebrate after successfully reaching the finish line. The unfortunate thing is the women's 4x100m relay event with the participation of Le Tu Chinh who has just returned from injury.
Despite their best efforts, the Vietnamese women's 4x100m relay team only finished in second place, sadly with a Silver Medal. Bui Thi Thu Thao's return from injury could not help her reach her best form. In the women's long jump, she finished with a score of 6.13m and only won a silver medal. Also in the women's long jump event, Bui Thi Loan ranked behind Bui Thi Thu Thao and won the Bronze Medal.
