Launching the Project to preserve and promote the value of the ancient Shan Tuyet tea heritage complex

BHG - On May 8, at Ha An Hotel, Ha Giang city, the Provincial Union of Science and Technology Associations in collaboration with the coordinator of the National Program for Small Projects, the Global Environment Facility organized a workshop to launch the Project on strengthening the capacity to preserve and promote the value of the ancient Shan Tuyet tea heritage complex associated with improving the livelihoods of the community in the buffer zone of Tay Con Linh Nature Reserve, Cao Bo commune (Vi Xuyen). Attending the workshop were leaders of a number of provincial departments, branches, and sectors, and leaders of Cao Bo commune.

The entire Cao Bo commune has over 820 hectares of Shan Tuyet tea, with 757 hectares for harvest; the average yield is about 7.9 quintals/ha; the output is over 495 tons. Tea has been grown by local people for a long time at an altitude of 800 m or more above sea level with a low density, including 273 ancient Shan Tuyet tea trees hundreds of years old. Ancient Shan Tuyet tea products have a brand and are the main source of income for the local ethnic minority community. However, the work of preserving and promoting the value of the Ancient Shan Tuyet Tea Heritage Complex still has some difficulties, such as: Risk of decline in quantity; good quality of tea products but low productivity and output; The linkage, processing and consumption of products have not really achieved high results, the value of the products is not commensurate... Therefore, the goal of the project is to preserve and sustainably develop the genetic resources of the ancient Shan Tuyet Tea Heritage Complex associated with promoting values, improving livelihoods, contributing to hunger eradication and poverty reduction for ethnic minority communities; promote the role and participation of the community and local authorities in the buffer zone through activities to build and implement village conventions on conservation and sustainable development of the ancient Shan Tuyet Tea Heritage Complex associated with the forest ecosystem of Tay Con Linh Nature Reserve; build transfer models, apply technical advances in supplementary planting; care, intensive farming in an organic direction; promote experiential tourism ; strengthen the linkage of production, processing and consumption of products...

Discussing at the workshop, delegates hoped that the project activities would be ensured to be on schedule and planned with technical support from experts; support for product consumption associated with tourism development; technical training for the community to implement planting and care models; build and promote the brand of ancient Shan Tuyet tea in domestic and foreign markets...
