According to NSMO, during the weekend of November 22-23, electricity consumption decreased significantly compared to working days. On November 22, the average electricity consumption reached 816 million kWh, equivalent to 96% compared to normal days. The maximum capacity reached 42,875 MW at 5:45 p.m. On November 23, the average output decreased to 735 million kWh, equivalent to 86%, with the maximum capacity reaching 39,990 MW at 5:55 p.m.
The average power source structure shows that hydropower accounts for the largest proportion at 44%. Coal-fired thermal power contributes 33%, wind power 11%, while solar power and rooftop solar power account for about 4%. To optimize the exploitation of discharged hydropower and renewable energy sources, NSMO has temporarily suspended the backup of nearly 1,000 MW from coal-fired thermal power plants and gas turbines. These units were restarted on November 24 to meet peak load.
As of November 24, the country still had 81 out of 122 hydropower reservoirs discharging water, down four compared to November 21. Of these, the North had 24 reservoirs, the Central had 44 reservoirs and the South had 13 reservoirs. The total capacity of the reservoirs discharging water reached about 15,600 MW out of the total 19,600 MW of hydropower in the system. Many large reservoirs in the North such as Son La, Lai Chau and Hoa Binh continued to discharge water at high flow rates to ensure the safety of the works and downstream areas.
Floods in the Central and Central Highlands regions continue to cause local power outages. NSMO and regional dispatch centers are coordinating with local power companies to urgently handle the incident and restore power to customers. As of 3:00 p.m. on November 24, the total affected and restored capacity reached 473.1/450.8 MW, equivalent to about 95%. Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang and Quang Ngai provinces have completely restored power supply. Meanwhile, some areas of Gia Lai, Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa are still being handled. Up to now, the grid system and power sources have been basically secured and returned to stable operation.
Implementing the direction of the Government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade , the National Power System and Electricity Market Operation Company Limited and other units continue to flexibly operate reservoirs. The units urgently fix problems and restore power supply to serve production, business and people's daily life. At the same time, the dispatch system closely monitors weather developments, adjusts operating methods and mobilizes appropriate power sources to ensure the safety of the national power system in the context of floods that are likely to continue.
