After 4 days of interruption due to the impact of storm No. 13 (international name: Kalmaegi) which washed away the railway bed, leaving the rails "suspended" at a height of 9m, with a spirit of urgency and high determination, at 11:00 p.m. on November 10, the railway industry restored the North-South railway line, the section passing through Xuan Lanh commune ( Dak Lak province).

Specifically, storm No. 13 caused heavy rain and strong winds in the provinces from Quang Ngai to Tuy Hoa, many sections of the North-South railway were damaged, disrupting train operations. In particular, the area Km1136+850 in the Phuoc Lanh-Van Canh section suffered the most serious landslides, with some places reaching a depth of 9m.

Faced with that situation, the Vietnam Railway industry urgently mobilized forces, vehicles and equipment from three Railway Joint Stock Companies Phu Khanh, Thuan Hai and Nghia Binh, focusing all efforts on overcoming the problem, with the goal of clearing the route in the fastest time.

According to the plan, in phase 1, mobilized forces will build a temporary bridge consisting of two abutments, two pillars and three steel girder spans, ensuring that ships can pass through the landslide area at a limited speed of about 5 km/hour.

To speed up the construction progress, the railway sector has opened a service road connecting National Highway 19C to the landslide area, creating conditions for trucks to transport materials. Along with that, trains carrying rocks and technical materials have also been arranged to run to both ends of the landslide, shortening the time to supply materials.

"Surveying and measuring the terrain are carried out in parallel to adjust suitable solutions, ensuring both technical and safety for construction workers in complex geological conditions. Nearly 300 workers are divided into many construction teams, working in three shifts, four shifts, day and night with high determination to open the route as soon as possible," said the leader of Vietnam Railway Corporation.

After a four-day temporary interruption, trains can now run smoothly on the North-South railway through the landslide area at a speed of 5km/h. Passenger and freight transport operations have officially resumed.

Vietnam Railway Corporation also said that phase 2 will be implemented soon, with the construction of fixed works and permanent reinforcement of the roadbed to ensure long-term safety for the route.
