The highlands are flourishing.

Visiting the highland communes of Thuan Chau district, we clearly felt the changes in the rhythm of life in this land. After a year of hard work, the people here joyfully welcomed the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026 with the hope of an increasingly prosperous and comfortable life.

Provincial Road 108 leading to the highland communes in Thuan Chau area has been repaired and upgraded.

The flourishing development of the Thuận Châu highlands today is not accidental, but the result of a long and persistent journey, guided by Resolution No. 09-NQ/HU dated March 4, 2021, of the former Thuận Châu District Party Committee on socio -economic development of highland communes in the 2021-2025 period. In particular, from July 1, 2025, with the implementation of the two-tiered local government model, the four highland communes of Co Mạ, Long Hẹ, Mường Bám, and Mường É, home to over 97% of the Mong ethnic minority, have received significant additional resources. To date, the infrastructure has fundamentally changed; roads to the communes and over 40% of the villages have been paved. The irrigation system has been invested in to ensure water supply for agricultural production. Nearly 100% of households have access to the national power grid and clean drinking water. Over 94% of schools and classrooms are built with solid or semi-solid structures...

Comrade Lo Anh Vien, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Muong E commune, happily stated: "The people in the commune are currently cultivating over 300 hectares of rice in two seasons, achieving a yield of 1,800 tons. Besides rice, industrial crops such as tea (400 hectares), coffee (625 hectares), and macadamia nuts and plums are also becoming the main sources of income. This Tet holiday, many families in the village are pooling resources to slaughter pigs and make sufficient purchases; the people are delighted with the fruits of their labor over the past year."

Further north in Co Ma commune, the image of the once impoverished highland village has been replaced by the bustling activity of grocery stores and building material shops. Ly A Chu, Chairman of the People's Committee of the commune, stated: Thanks to the shift from opium cultivation to ginger, hawthorn, and fruit trees, many models now generate incomes of 100-200 million VND per year. With a food production of over 8,600 tons and a livestock population of over 42,000, Co Ma confidently aims to further reduce the number of poor households by 5.12% in 2026.

Bringing highland agricultural products to the city and to the market is a bright spot in the economic landscape of the highland communes of Thuan Chau. Currently, 10 agricultural cooperatives have become a bridge to bring new techniques to the people. For example, the Cha May Agricultural Cooperative in Long He commune has 3 farms raising over 3,000 native black chickens. Mr. Thao A Hong, a member of the cooperative, said: "Our black chicken floss and vacuum-packed chicken products have achieved OCOP 3-star standard and are available in major supermarkets in Hanoi. The income of our members is increasing year by year."

During this visit to the highland communes of Thuan Chau district, we also heard many stories from the locals about introducing high-economic-value crops into production and increasing the application of technology to improve productivity, implementing clean production processes to enhance product quality and meet consumer demands. Currently, the highland communes have more than 5,000 hectares of hawthorn and fruit trees; 352 hectares of medicinal plants, including cardamom, ginger, turmeric, and coix seeds; 17 hectares of ramie... Maintaining more than 10,000 head of livestock and nearly 60,000 poultry. Protecting and cultivating more than 20,670 hectares of forest, with a forest cover rate of over 47%...

Alongside economic growth, the socio-cultural sector has achieved encouraging results. The quality of education has been sustainably maintained, with 99.5% of preschool children attending classes and literacy rates exceeding 94%. Healthcare services at commune health stations are ensured; social welfare is a priority for the communes; and the people are united in building a cultured lifestyle and preserving their traditional ethnic identity.

In the vibrant atmosphere of spring, walking amidst hawthorn forests, lush green tea hills, and clean concrete roads, we clearly felt the faith of the people of Thuan Chau highlands in the leadership of the Party and their determination to innovate and work together to build more prosperous and happy springs.
