On August 4, in Hanoi, the People's Committee of Gia Lai province, the Vietnam Sports Administration, Tien Phong Newspaper and the Vietnam Golf Association (VGA) jointly held a press conference to announce the National Golf Championship - Gia Lai 2025.
This is an important sporting event, continuing to affirm the role of the national golf championship, the tournament with the longest tradition and largest scale in Vietnamese golf.

The National Golf Championship - Gia Lai 2025 takes place from August 18 to 23 at FLC Golf Links Quy Nhon, gathering 150 of the best golfers in the country, including professional golfers of Vietnamese nationality and amateur athletes with a handicap index no higher than 5.0 (men) and 10.0 (women).
The players will compete in a 72-hole stroke play format (4 rounds of 18 holes each). After the first 36 holes, the organizers will make the cut, selecting the 50 best male golfers and 12 best female golfers for the final two rounds. The winner is the golfer with the lowest gross score after 4 rounds.
The total prize fund this year is 1.2 billion VND, of which 1 billion VND is for the men's division and 200 million VND is for the women's division. The men's division champion receives 180 million VND, while the women's division champion receives 60 million VND.
"After winning the 2024 championship, I have a springboard to step into many big playgrounds at home and abroad. I am very happy and will try my best to defend the throne. After 2 times playing at FLC Quy Nhon, I realized that this is a difficult and challenging field. I will try my best to achieve the desired results," said the reigning men's champion Nguyen Duc Son.
To encourage sustainable development, the organizers continue to waive entry fees for the defending champions and members of the national golf team, while reducing fees by 50% for athletes under 18 years old.

This year’s tournament promises to continue to bring top-notch competitions, where young talents affirm their abilities and experienced golfers demonstrate their class. All share the common goal of bringing Vietnamese golf to the international level and integration.
Wings of the SEA Games dream
2022 marks an important milestone in the history of the national golf championship. With the support of Tien Phong Newspaper, the Vietnam Golf Association (VGA) has included the tournament in the Vietnam Professional Golf Tournament System (VGA Tour), affirming that this is the only playground dedicated to Vietnamese golfers, where true champions representing the country's top golf are found.
Not only does it foster young talent, the national golf championship is also an important launching pad for the national team.
In 2023, for the first time, Vietnamese golf stepped onto the podium of SEA Games glory, with individual gold medal of Le Khanh Hung, individual bronze medal of Nguyen Anh Minh, and team silver medal with the contribution of Doan Uy and Dang Minh. The faces that made that brilliant milestone all shone at the national championship.

Recently, Nguyen Anh Minh, the 2022 champion, continued to make a global splash with the runner-up position at the 2025 US Junior Amateur, one of the most prestigious and reputable youth tournaments in the world organized by the United States Golf Association (USGA).
With young Vietnamese golfers maturing and affirming their names in the international arena, Vietnamese golf has every reason to expect breakthrough achievements at the 33rd SEA Games taking place later this year in Thailand.
"This is the most important tournament for the Vietnamese golf team to prepare for the SEA Games. The challenging course in Quy Nhon is an important test for the members before the SEA Games. We will finalize the list on September 1, so this playground is the basis for the team's coaching staff to select members," Mr. Nguyen Thai Duong, Deputy General Secretary of VGA, shared with the press.
Established in 2005, the national golf championship is considered a historical milestone, laying the foundation for the professional competition system of the Vietnam Golf Association (VGA). After two decades of formation and development, the tournament has become the "dream arena" of every Vietnamese golfer, where young talents are challenged, assert themselves and reach out to the international arena.
Throughout that journey, the national golf championship has constantly innovated to adapt to the strong development of domestic golf. In 2008, the tournament expanded to allow foreign athletes to participate, increasing competitiveness and creating opportunities for domestic golfers to compete with international friends. By 2012, the tournament continued to make its mark with the addition of a women's division and gradually developed into an independent tournament for female golfers, an important step to elevate and promote the Vietnamese women's golf movement.
Above all, the national golf championship also plays an important role in caring for, nurturing and honoring Vietnamese golf talents. Tran Le Duy Nhat, Nguyen Thai Duong, Truong Chi Quan, Ngo Bao Nghi, Nguyen Thao My, Nguyen Anh Minh..., the faces who were crowned here when they were very young, later grew up and became the pride of Vietnamese golf in major arenas.
