Especially for people with sensitive teeth, brushing before breakfast can make the condition worse, especially if after brushing, they immediately drink a cup of hot or iced coffee.
For people with sensitive teeth, brushing before consuming hot or cold foods can increase the discomfort, explains Dr. Deepa.
So when is the best time to brush your teeth?
Dr. Deepa advises: Brushing your teeth after breakfast helps protect your teeth from damage caused by acidic foods and drinks. Removing plaque after breakfast can protect your teeth from sensitivity, enamel erosion, and bad breath.
However, not right after breakfast, because eating acidic breakfast foods like citrus juices, fruits, or vinegar can temporarily soften tooth enamel. Brushing your teeth right after eating these can wear away this important protective layer.
Dr. Deepa's recommendation is to brush your teeth about 30 minutes after breakfast to give saliva time to neutralize acids and restore tooth enamel.

Brushing too soon after an acidic meal can damage your teeth. Saliva needs time to neutralize those acids first.
Deepa also emphasizes that brushing after breakfast also helps remove leftover food and reduces tooth stains, especially after drinking coffee or tea: Foods and drinks like coffee can stain teeth if not removed quickly. Brushing 30 minutes later helps brighten the smile.
Whether you brush your teeth before or after breakfast should depend on your personal habits.
When it comes to dental hygiene, there is a debate between convenience and consistency.
While it's ideal to brush your teeth after breakfast, Dr Deepa admits that for busy people, this may not always be possible.
Finally, the most important thing is consistency. Brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, floss daily, and see your dentist regularly for checkups.
Dr Deepa advises: Whether you brush your teeth before or after breakfast should depend on your personal habits and dental health needs, but if possible, brushing after eating will protect your teeth better, according to Express .
