Inspecting disaster prevention work in Bao Loc City

(LĐ online) - On June 1, the working delegation of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue (PCTT-TKCN) of Lam Dong province led by Mr. Nguyen Ha Loc - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief of Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue had a working session with the People's Committee of Bao Loc city.

At the meeting, Mr. Phung Ngoc Hap - Vice Chairman of Bao Loc City People's Committee reported to the working delegation on the results that the locality has been implementing in the work of disaster prevention and control in the area. In the past time, the city has focused on implementing the directives of the Central Government and Lam Dong province on disaster prevention and control. On that basis, the City People's Committee has led and directed functional branches, wards and communes to promote propaganda to raise awareness among people to proactively prevent natural disasters in all situations. Along with that, the local Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control has proactively advised the City People's Committee to develop a plan and organize drills to be ready to respond to all situations to ensure the motto "4 on-site".

Currently, Bao Loc City has built a shock force ready to mobilize to participate in PCTT-TKCN work with nearly 870 members. In 2023, Bao Loc City also invested in purchasing equipment and means to be ready to respond to situations caused by natural disasters and floods to minimize damage to people when incidents occur. In addition to the achieved results, there are still many difficulties and challenges due to unexpected natural disasters, so at many times the response work is not timely; most of the forces at the grassroots level are concurrently working, so they have not fully promoted their spirit and responsibility in response, search and rescue work; funding sources are still limited, so they have not been able to overcome the consequences caused by natural disasters; some irrigation works in the city have degraded but have not been invested in for repair; the encroachment of land along rivers, streams, and irrigation lakes has not been completely handled.
At the meeting, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lam Dong province Nguyen Ha Loc highly appreciated the results that Bao Loc city has been implementing to effectively carry out the work of PCTT-TKCN in the area. At the same time, he requested Bao Loc city to arrange forces at key points, guide people to travel, ensure traffic safety during prolonged periods of heavy rain and floods; effectively maintain the motto "4 on-site" when natural disasters occur. Currently, the rainy season has begun, so the locality needs to maintain information on the developments of rain and floods in the area so that people can grasp and proactively prevent them.
Along with that, Bao Loc City needs to focus on installing warning signs in vulnerable areas at risk of flash floods and landslides during the rainy season; implementing mass mobilization work to dredge and clear streams and drainage culverts to limit flooding when heavy rains occur. In particular, it is necessary to strengthen core and shock forces to be ready to support people in preventing and overcoming consequences in emergency situations when flash floods, tornadoes, floods and landslides occur.
