On the morning of May 6, speaking with VietNamNet , Mr. Nguyen Van Hoang, Chairman of Phong Thuy Commune People's Committee, informed about the incident that occurred at Phong Thuy Kindergarten, Phong Thuy Commune, Le Thuy District, Quang Binh, on April 28.
Accordingly, when giving one of the newly purchased water bottles to students, the school teacher was shocked to discover a leech in the 20-liter water bottle with the label still intact. When shaking the water bottle, the leech, the size of a chopstick tip, began to wiggle and move.
“After discovering the incident, the school leaders invited the commune to come and work and make a specific report. We have also sent this report to the district, and the agencies are currently working on it,” said Mr. Hoang.
According to Ms. Duong Thi Thuy Ha, Principal of Phong Thuy Kindergarten, previously, the school often bought 20-liter water bottles from Bang Mineral Water Joint Stock Company (located in Kien Giang Town, Le Thuy District) for students to drink.
The most recent purchase was on April 25-28, when I took one of the newly purchased water bottles out to use, the above incident happened.
"We are very careful when using food and water. Every time we open a bottle, we check it very carefully before letting students use it. That day, the teachers checked the water bottle before opening it and discovered a leech inside," said Ms. Ha.

The school immediately stopped using bottled water from Bang Mineral Water Joint Stock Company. Currently, teachers are boiling water for students to drink to ensure safety.
The school also contacted the water supply company, made an initial report of the incident and conducted an inspection. The water bottle with the leech inside was later recovered by the company.
Regarding this incident, on the afternoon of May 5, the Department of Food Safety and Hygiene of Quang Binh province sent a delegation to directly work and inspect the production at Bang Mineral Water Joint Stock Company.
A representative of this company said that the unit has re-examined the entire production process to find out why leeches appeared in unopened water bottles.
The company believes that the 20-liter water bottle may have been reused and that during the cleaning process, a leech was not thoroughly rinsed, leaving behind a foreign object. In addition, the company is also clarifying some other suspicions.
Bang Mineral Water Joint Stock Company is a producer of mineral water and bottled soft drinks that are popular with consumers in Quang Binh and some neighboring provinces. Currently, many schools in Le Thuy district are using bottled water from this company.
