On the afternoon of August 6, the Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Tan Hao commune, Vinh Long province, held a ceremony to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the death of Lieutenant General Dong Van Cong.

Attending the event were comrade Vo Thanh Hao - former Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, former Chairman of the People's Council of Ben Tre province; comrade Le Thi Thuy Kieu - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; representatives of the Provincial Military Command; local leaders, veteran revolutionaries, and the family of Lieutenant General Dong Van Cong.
Lieutenant General Dong Van Cong, who made great contributions to building the Ben Tre armed forces and the Zone 8 battlefield during the French resistance. He was born in 1918, was aware of the revolution early, worked secretly from 1936, and was admitted to the Indochinese Communist Party in 1939 (now the Communist Party of Vietnam ).
In February 1946, the French invaded Ben Tre. He was in charge of the Tan Hao Commune Military Committee and commanded the Tan Hao Commune Guerrilla Team. With only 4 flintlock guns, machetes, and grenades, under his skillful command, the soldiers in cloth fought victoriously, making the French army terrified. The battle at that time was famous as Bau Doi.

After more than a year of fighting on the battlefield of his homeland, he led his unit from Platoon to Company, Battalion, and then to Regiment (Regiment 99). Having held many important positions, with his contributions to the revolutionary cause, he was affectionately called by the people as "The General of the Sea", "the eldest brother of the Ben Tre armed forces".
Lieutenant General Dong Van Cong passed away on August 6, 2005, at the age of 87, and was buried at Ben Tre Martyrs Cemetery. His temple was established in Tan Thi Hamlet, Tan Hao Commune. In 2014, Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee ranked him as a provincial historical relic.

At the ceremony, delegates respectfully offered incense and flowers, and reviewed the history and contributions of the heroic general, a steadfast revolutionary soldier who made many important contributions to his homeland and country.
