Which majors are 'hot' at college level, businesses are 'hunting' for human resources from the lecture hall?

University and college admissions in 2025 are entering their peak period. From tourism, restaurants and hotels to nursing, these are all professions that attract candidates thanks to guaranteed employment, and businesses even proactively 'hunt' for human resources right from when students enroll.

Top occupations that "attract" candidates

Sharing about the enrollment situation, Master Phan Buu Toan, Vice Principal of Saigon College of Tourism , said that the two majors that candidates are most interested in at the school are hotel - restaurant and travel, especially in the professions of tour guide and chef. Usually, enrollment for these two majors will be completed in August.

At Bach Viet Polytechnic College, Dr. Tran Manh Thanh, Principal of the school, said that the automotive technology industry continues to lead in the number of candidates registering and confirming enrollment, followed by digital marketing, nursing, information technology, artificial intelligence (AI) applications, and Chinese. In addition, many candidates are interested in pharmaceuticals, e-commerce, and website design. A traditional industry that always "attracts" candidates every year is tourism, including two majors: hotel management, restaurant management, and food service. During the recent internship at 5-star and 6-star hotels, 60-70% of students were retained to work.

Ms. Phan Thi Le Thu, Vice Principal of Far East College, said that in previous years, the medical and pharmaceutical majors only met their enrollment quota, but this year, the enrollment has been more promising right from the first round. Majors that are attracting many candidates include automotive, nursing, general practitioner, pharmacist, business administration, information technology, electricity, and graphic design.

Master Vo Cong Tri, Vice Principal of Saigon College of Technology and Tourism, said that the majors that many candidates are interested in and applying for at the school are the technical majors (automobile majors), the tourism majors (food processing, tourism, restaurants, hotels), and the information technology majors (information technology, graphic design).

“This year, a good sign is that many candidates with good academic performance have registered for college admission, and they are all supported by the school with scholarships from 35% to 50% of the first semester tuition,” Master Vo Cong Tri informed.

At Ho Chi Minh City International College, after the enrollment period, Ms. Vo Thanh Huong, Head of Admissions and Communications, said that the majors that attracted the most candidates included: automotive technology, nursing, Chinese, culinary arts, beauty care, and pharmacy. In addition, applied majors such as computer programming, graphic design, and restaurant and hotel management also had a stable number of candidates.

Businesses "hunt" for human resources as soon as students start school

Instead of waiting until students graduate to recruit, many businesses now get involved from the first day students enroll.

Master Le Thu informed that at Far East College, from 2025, when students enroll, they will sign a contract to guarantee employment between 3 parties: School - parents - business. Therefore, businesses have sponsored students since they first enrolled. "At the Open Day last July, Dong Phuong Group signed a contract with students in the hotel and restaurant industry to ensure that students have "a foot" to work at this business after graduation, even while still in school", Master Thu shared.

In addition, many students who register to study medicine worry about where they will find work. Master Le Thu said that Children's Hospital 2 (in Ho Chi Minh City) is committed to ensuring jobs for students. Master Pham Lam Lac Thu, Head of Nursing Department, Children's Hospital 2, shared that after graduation, it usually takes a period of time to wait for a diploma, but Children's Hospital 2 only needs students to have a temporary certificate, the hospital will accept them as apprentices, during the apprenticeship, students will be supported with expenses and will not incur any additional costs.

Mr. Bui Tien Dat, Human Resources Director of Dong Phuong Group, said that students will learn a trade at the enterprise and receive a salary, and receive additional training on customers, markets, products and services, etc. "We do not accept you for internships at the enterprise, but accompany you throughout the learning process, not only linking to teach trades but also taking charge of the theory right at the enterprise," Mr. Dat added.

Also talking about the demand for human resources in the tourism, restaurant and hotel sector, Master Phan Buu Toan shared that currently students are not worried about job opportunities in this sector. "The problem that the school is facing is that there is not enough supply when businesses place orders, the restaurant and hotel sector is seriously lacking in human resources", Master Toan informed.

Master Toan added that businesses always need people trained for specific job positions such as receptionists, housekeeping... Therefore, the school trains the right job positions that students will do when recruited, not general training.

Dr. Tran Manh Thanh informed that this year, Bach Viet College of Technology focuses on training 16 majors and signing contracts with businesses so that students will be recruited immediately after graduation. Some of them include: aviation logistics (air transport business administration) and aviation commercial services. These are majors that aviation businesses are "ordering" to recruit because the demand is very high at both Tan Son Nhat airport and soon Long Thanh airport... "As many businesses as there are, they will take them all," said Dr. Thanh. In addition, according to Dr. Thanh, some large foreign car companies also come to the school to recruit students in the automotive technology industry.

Ms. Vo Thanh Huong shared that at Ho Chi Minh City International College, the majors of nursing, beauty care, automotive technology, culinary technology, and restaurant and hotel management all have cooperation agreements with businesses, committing to support employment after graduation. In particular, some majors such as accounting, computer network management, computer programming, and automotive technology can transfer to Taiwan under the international program, receive full scholarships (100% tuition and dormitory) and commit to having a job in Taiwan after graduating from university.

A representative of Deo Ca Group, one of the largest corporations in the transport infrastructure sector, shared that with a very high demand for human resources, in recent times, the unit has cooperated with many universities and colleges across the country. The unit hopes to recruit students in many job positions such as: accounting, human resources, finance, automotive engineering, mechanics, electricity - electronics, automation...
