Lao Cai summarizes the Project to develop reading culture in the community for the period 2021 - 2025

On the morning of November 7, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a conference to review the Project on Developing Reading Culture in the Community for the period 2021 - 2025, to evaluate the implementation results and honor collectives and individuals with many contributions to reading promotion work in the province.

Attending the conference were leaders of provincial departments, branches, sectors, organizations, representatives of schools, collectives, outstanding individuals who were awarded, and nearly 200 students in Cam Duong ward.

At the conference, delegates watched a film summarizing the results of the implementation of the Project on Developing Reading Culture in the Community in Lao Cai for the period 2021 - 2025. After 5 years of implementation, the project has achieved many positive results, the reading movement has developed widely, gradually forming reading habits among all classes of people.

The library system has been strengthened and expanded, with 1 provincial library, 25 communal libraries, and 267 grassroots bookcases. The provincial library has added over 102,000 books, issued over 35,000 new reader cards, and served about 1.1 million people. The models of "Community Bookcase", "Classroom Corner Library", "Mobile Library" and "Digital Knowledge Space" have become bright spots, contributing to bringing knowledge to remote areas.

Every year, Lao Cai province organizes many major activities: "Book Reading Festival", "Lifelong Learning Week", "Reading Culture Ambassador Contest", "Children's Book Promotion", attracting tens of thousands of participants. These events create a useful playground for students, contribute to building a learning society, and arouse the spirit of self-study and self-reading in the community.

Besides the achievements, the report also pointed out some difficulties: library facilities in the highlands are still limited; data digitization work is not yet synchronized; human resources for grassroots libraries are still lacking and holding multiple positions.

In the period of 2026 - 2030, the province aims to continue promoting digital transformation, socializing library activities, training professional staff, and strengthening international cooperation to build a modern and effective library system to serve all people.
