Salary table for secondary school teachers from January 1, 2026 according to the draft of the new Decree

(Dan Tri) - The salary of junior high school teachers is expected to increase from VND800,000 to more than VND2,000,000 from January 1, 2026, according to the latest proposal of the Ministry of Education and Training on applying a special salary coefficient.

With more than 278,000 teachers working nationwide, improving salaries for secondary school teachers is an important step forward.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training , the highest salary currently is for a first-class teacher, with a coefficient of about 6.1, plus a seniority allowance of about 30% and a professional incentive allowance of 70%. Thus, the highest total salary is 28.5 million VND.

To improve teachers' income, the Ministry of Education and Training has proposed applying a special salary coefficient to the salaries of public school teachers.

Specifically, the general coefficient of 1.15 applies to public primary, secondary and high school teachers. The priority coefficient of 1.2 is for teachers who are directly teaching disabled students, integrated students, or working at boarding schools.

Thus, the formula for calculating junior high school teacher salary = Basic salary (2,340,000 VND) x Current salary coefficient x Specific salary coefficient (1.15 or 1.2).

With this calculation, the highest salary according to the salary table can be up to more than 18.2 million VND if at coefficient 1.15 and more than 19 million VND at coefficient 1.2.

The draft Decree regulating salary and allowance policies for teachers is being consulted by the Ministry of Education and Training until November 9.
