On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, on August 22, Vietnam News Agency coordinated with the Hanoi People's Committee to organize a talk show "80-year memories - Historic Autumn."
Through three stages of memory: “Hanoi - Heart of the Revolution”; “Capital - Sacred Soul of National Culture”; “Hanoi Youth - Heritage and Aspiration to Rise,” the discussion summarized the heroic history of the Capital in the flow of national history.
Hanoi: Where Vietnamese spirit converges
According to Professor-Doctor Vu Minh Giang, Vice President of the Vietnam Historical Science Association, Member of the National Cultural Heritage Council, events taking place in the capital always play a decisive role. In the success of the August Revolution 80 years ago, Hanoi played a special and decisive role in the success, which then spread throughout the country.
“We have been well prepared in terms of forces for a long time and just need to wait for the opportunity to carry out the General Uprising. In early 1945, when the fascist army surrendered, on August 19, 1945, President Ho Chi Minh saw that the opportunity was ripe and immediately directed the General Uprising in the capital Hanoi. The uprising quickly won not only affirmed the wise leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh but also showed the decisive role of Hanoi. The General Uprising and the seizure of power in the capital had a spreading effect to then continue to win in the localities,” Mr. Vu Minh Giang analyzed.
According to Mr. Vu Minh Giang, the August Revolution took place in many different localities. Some places took power before August 19, 1945, and many places took power after August 19. But the decision to take August 19 as the day the August Revolution succeeded was because that was the day we took power in Hanoi.
“It can be said that Hanoi is a place where Vietnamese spirit converges, crystallized in a locality with a special position: the brain of the country. Hanoi people, from the youth to the elderly, are always loyal to the revolutionary government, leaving many shining examples for future generations to follow,” said Mr. Giang.
According to the Standing Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Van Phong, exactly 80 years ago, the Hanoi Party Committee was also the first party committee in the country to be established. Under the direction of the Central Committee to decide on the General Uprising to seize power on August 19, 1945, the Hanoi Party Committee at that time had about 50 people, all of whom were young people, aged from under 20 to 30 years old, who responded flexibly, proactively, and courageously led the people to successfully carry out the General Offensive and Uprising.
“Hanoi clearly demonstrated its leading role and bravery at the decisive moment of the country. Choosing August 19, 1945 to seize power was the result of long-term preparation by the Party Central Committee as well as the positivity, initiative and pioneering readiness of the Hanoi Party Committee. Therefore, the August Revolution won quickly, completely, without bloodshed,” said Mr. Nguyen Van Phong.
Mr. Nguyen Van Phong said that the glorious victory of the August Revolution brought independence and freedom to the nation and a lesson in proactiveness, decisiveness, and flexibility in leadership and direction, in which Hanoi showed its pioneering and leading role.
“Based on that, we are confident and determined to realize the aspiration to develop the Capital in accordance with its role and mission: The Capital is the leader and pioneer in the era of development,” the Standing Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee emphasized.
Speaking at the seminar, Ms. Nguyen Thi Su, Deputy General Director of Vietnam News Agency, said that talking about Hanoi means talking about elegant and gallant people, a refined lifestyle and sophistication in cultural behavior.

"Lighthouse" in the cultural development of the whole country.
'Locomotive' of new age culture
Over the past 80 years since the success of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2, Hanoi has clearly demonstrated its position as the political, cultural and social center of the whole country. At the seminar, delegates and speakers clarified Hanoi's leading role in developing culture and people in the new era.
According to Associate Professor-Doctor Bui Hoai Son, Standing Member of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Society, Hanoi has a rich cultural heritage. Regardless of the historical period, Hanoi's culture is symbolic and an important resource for the development of the capital and the country.
“Trang An-Hanoi culture has always played a leading role in the cultural flow of the nation. Therefore, regardless of the historical period, Hanoi has always been the cultural center of the whole country. Hanoi is the place where cultures from all over the world converge and spread, therefore, Hanoi culture is the 'lighthouse' leading the common cultural development of the nation,” said Mr. Bui Hoai Son.
Further analyzing the cultural development of the capital, especially in the current development stage, Mr. Bui Hoai Son said that Hanoi always shows its pioneering and leading role in cultural development and human development.
The evidence is that Hanoi has Program 06-CTr/TU of the Hanoi Party Committee on cultural development, improving the quality of human resources, building elegant and civilized Hanoians in the period of 2021-2025 and Resolution 09 on developing cultural industries. Hanoi is also the first city in Southeast Asia to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (in 2019). These things affirm that Hanoi always takes culture as the focus of development, building many models for the whole country.
Regarding this issue, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Van Phong said that generations of city leaders have always paid attention to cultural development, considering culture as a development resource of the capital.
“It is no coincidence that Hanoi has the brand name ‘The Capital of a Thousand Years of Culture and Heroes.’ This shows Hanoi’s thousand-year-old cultural sediment and its contribution to the nation’s history. Up to now, Hanoi has been entrusted by the Central Government with the task of being the locomotive leading the key economic region of the North, the center of culture, science, education-training and international integration,” Mr. Nguyen Van Phong shared.
Accordingly, the Hanoi Party Committee has set goals, expressed aspirations, and a new vision for the capital with a larger role and mission, and influence in the region and the world. The city also identified 5 pillars as the driving force for development, in which the first pillar is cultural and heritage development, thereby creating a foundation for developing the city towards green transformation, digital transformation, circular economy, etc.
“Hanoi identifies culture and people as the goals for the city’s development. Culture must be a new resource for rapid and sustainable development, gradually affirming Hanoi’s position internationally. In particular, Hanoi advocates developing cultural industry to become a spearhead of development,” Mr. Nguyen Van Phong emphasized./.
