
Hon Khoai Island (in Tan An commune, Ngoc Hien district, Ca Mau province) is 318m above sea level and about 4km2 wide, located in the Southeast of Ca Mau Cape, more than 6 nautical miles from the mainland, about 20 nautical miles from the international shipping route.
Currently, there are 4 forces stationed on the island to protect and manage the island, including: Border Guard Station, Navy, Lighthouse Station and Forest Ranger Department. Hon Khoai Island has a strategic position in terms of national defense and security, and is an outpost guarding the airspace, sea and territorial waters in the southwest of the Fatherland.

At the meeting, Secretary of the Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Ho Hai highly appreciated the spirit of solidarity and overcoming difficulties in carrying out tasks on the island. The armed forces and each officer and soldier need to promote the spirit of solidarity; uphold the will of self-reliance, self-strengthening, high political determination and take more drastic actions to firmly protect independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.
Secretary of the Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Ho Hai also informed that in the coming time, the Central Government will pay attention to investing and building the Hon Khoai Deep-water Port project, combined with the traffic route connecting Ca Mau Cape to Hon Khoai Port. Thereby, promoting local economic development.
